A conventional full-size chainsaw is difficult to use with one hand, so it kind of automatically discourages a user from doing so. These mini chainsaws are designed for one-handed use, and there will be many situations where a user may be tempted to hold the workpiece with one hand while using the saw with the other hand. This is how fingers get shredded. Mini chainsaws are safe only to the extent that the user remains vigilant and safety-conscious. The chain may stop quickly when you release the trigger, but that’s only going to happen after the massive teeth on the chain have gone halfway/completely through your fingers.
Plug-in electric chainsaws have been around for a while. I used to have one, and while the cord was a bit inconvenient, being rid of a temperamental stinky gasoline engine is a big improvement.
There are also full-size battery-powered chainsaws now. I bought this one a couple of years ago:
No cord, no gas motor, automatic bar oiling system. I like it.
I have one of those tools. Wonderful for trimming the palm tree out front. Goes through frond stalks like buttah! Mine is a cheap Chinese saw made by Saker.
That’s the image that flashed through my mind, though the teeth are small and cute in these little handheld ones. A quarter inch finger kerf instead of half an inch.
