Everyone is \*\*entitled \*\*to at least the minimum wage. Not everyone gets it. It’s an uncomplicated distinction.

FWIW and in order, 30% and up thank you for adding to my dining experience, 18% to 23% is normal and gives some wiggle room for service and price, about 15% for missing the mark, 10% for servers who don’t seem to be serving me but the clock or the demands of the job, zero and a written explanation for bad service, and a single coin of the lowest amount for the lowest of lows which is what I consider abandonment.

That reminds me of the time ~25 years ago that my assistant and I arrived at a podunk Florida panhandle town about 10-pm and stopped at a dubious looking _seafood shanty_ for dinner. We were famished after spending many hours on the road.

I ordered the fried flounder platter. When my entree was placed before me and I stuck my fork into the “_flounder_” filet, it deflated, very much like [this scene](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Spmqbs8YCW8) from National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation.

I called over the server and said, \*“there’s no flounder in this filet, in fact, there’s no meat of any kind in this; it’s just fried batter. Can you please exchange this for actual fried fish?” \*

_“Sorry, but we ran out of fish a while ago.”_

I ended up ordering a grilled cheese sandwich (and I’m pretty sure it was fake cheese). But, still, I tipped our server 15%, even though the service was bad and the food was worse, because it wasn’t her fault they had lousy (i.e. non-existant) food.
