I am in the market for a dishwasher (home, built in) with stainless steel racks. Is such a thing made? All I can find is stainless interior, which I already have. ---

I’m not a dishwasher expert, but I can’t think of a good reason for using stainless steel for the rack. I’d be worried about the steel scratching up cookware, and it would probably make a lot of noise while stuff is rattling around in there. Is there a particular reason you’re looking for this feature? Maybe there’s something else that addresses the same problem. ---

I too can’t imagine SS racks would be a good thing. I’d be worried about plates and drinkware getting scratched and anything glass getting broken if it jostles around. Also, what does this have to do with bs sales sites? Are there websites that say their dishwashers have them but don’t? ---

And really… I suspect that the cost of stainless racks in a new dishwasher would be far more than the paltry $150 to get all new nylon-coated ones (based on what it would cost to get new ones for my dishwasher) ---

The only thing that would be nice about SS racks is if they were Nylon coated SS racks so when the nylon did eventually come off they wouldn’t rust. But unless you cut or tear the coating, it’s usually like 10-20 years before it wears off and begins to show signs of rust. I have no idea, however, what the price difference would be between SS (coated in nylon) vs whatever metal they use, probably just regular steel, but it’s too bad those racks are so expensive. At about $100 a piece it’s almost worth just buying a new washer.
