Don’t worry, sonny. I promise you, we will never agree again. I thought L.A. Confidential was overwritten, pretentious, Robert Towne-wannabe crap.
Wait. You hated *Mars Attacks, *right? But then, every thinking man does.

I agree with ol’ Crunchy Frog, LA Confidential was much better than Titanic.
As for the whole “bookends” thing, that really pisses me off. Same same for the bookends of The Green MIle and Saving Private Ryan.
In fact, I’d level the same criticism at said Saving Private Ryan that I would at Titanic. Both visually spectacular, with disappointing plots. Anybody care to flame me like all my military buddies do?
Nah, Saving Private Ryan is weak, plotwise. Pretty cheesy, in fact.
But it had that opening 30 minutes. Sometimes, that’s all the audience needs.
I love Lionors’ and Crunchy Frog’s evaluations.
Hell, the movie was nothing. You should try reading the book! That bitch of novel gave me a headache.
I don’t remember saying that. Mars attacks wasn’t a great movie, but I thought it was fun. Besides I’m a big Jack Nicholson fan, so I always find something to like about his movies. In this case, I got to see him play 2 characters.
I’m ex-Air Force and I’ve posted my dislikes about the Saving Private Ryan screenplay around here a number of times (but that didn’t stop me from making SPR the first DVD I bought). Most usually, I go after the bookends and when they find Ryan. I still don’t like them too much, but the last conversation we had here about them caused me to re-evaluate my opinions a bit on the film and not be so hard on it. (But I want to make clear, I still don’t like those parts much.) I’ll try to dig up a link.
Mars Attack even had JOE DON BAKER!!!
I’m so mad-Simplicity patterns discontinued their flying dress pattern.
