As I was told by my shrink when on Lexapro (Cipralex), part of orgasming has to do with a bit of a dopamine dump. If you are on SSRI’s and other sopamine affecting drugs, then your brain gets a bit confused and doesn’t know when to say “OK, that’s enough stimulation, let’s GO!” So, some people experience the frustrating occurance of everything working, but not going anywhere. **Wifecat** and I could do porn-star re-creations of fast-n-furious sex until her cooter said “STOP!” and I wouldn’t be anywhere near the point of no return. No. I have no trouble surrendering to the sensations and feelings when I’m with a partner and it’s a rare occasion when I don’t have multiple orgasms. But alone it just feels kinda ridiculous, and my mind wanders too easily when I don’t have another person to enjoy. Hmmm. When not having sex, daily – perhaps more, perhaps less. When having regular sex, not at all – except for the occasional bout of manic horniness. (41, male, married). When younger, I masturbated at least daily. Vaseline. Doesn’t spill, doesn’t dry out, doesn’t burn, itch, or sting. Cleans completely with soap & water. ---

Female, 26 Sometimes. Usually I have to be “inspired” somehow - phone sex is good or certain sensual scenes in some movies or some porn. Otherwise, I don’t usually see a reason to do it. Prozac made me horny and erect for most of my waking hours but I was unable to reach orgasm, climax, whatever you want to call it. Actually I could once in a while but it took a lot of time and effort. After giving up on Prozac because it did not relieve the depression it was prescribed for, my doctor put me on Wellbutrin which also did nothing for the depression but did **NOT** have the same sexual side effects as Prozac. YMMV. ---

Female, 47. Been doing it since I was about 17. How often varies. Quite often when I was younger and not having sex. But my sex drive waxes and wanes with my hormone levels so for most of my life I have about a week every month in which I can’t get enough of myself, and three weeks out of the month that I do nothing. Male, 27, yes. I can’t remember exactly when I started, but some time around 12 or 13. Since then it’s been about once a day. I sometimes take a break either because I’m travelling with no privacy or out of choice. Generally that doesn’t last more than a week, sometimes less. I find it can be nice to take a break, it can put things in a different perspective and sort of recharges my batteries. I sometimes wonder if masturbating has contributed to my lack of physical relationships with women. It’s clear to me that there much more to it than that, however. One big factor is that I have a fear of letting myself go and just falling in love, or in lust. I think masturbation helped allow me to not confront my fears.
