# To-day all hail to the forty-ness of Unca Cece authorings!

This day 40-years previous (104 Fahrenheit) appeared the debut – [date of 2 February 1973](http://www.straightdope.com/pages/faq/firstcolumn) – of now two-kilo-articles of _The Straight Dope_, authorings of one Cecil Adams. First editoring conductor one Mike Lenehan. Went to madness. Newness editoring conductor one Dave Kehr. Again madness. Editoring subsequent conductor one Ed Zotti, premiering of the year circa 1978 approximately.

The columns of Uncle Cecil – forty, forthright and foremost!

so how long did that free LP for the best question go on? until Cecil got rid of his crappy records? as long as there was a free bin at the used record store?

I have much in common with the bristlecone pine, whose extraordinary longevity stems from being unburdened by higher mental faculties.

The boss says thanks. I might point out that while it’s been two kilo columns, the enterprise has fielded 3K questions, factoring in twofers and staff reports.

Jeeze, I started in the Lenehan years and I’m not the least bit less ignorant. It’s taking longer than I thought. ☹
