I can’t explain why, but I’m dumbfounded to the point of outrage at these utter morons who felt a need to [show up outside the Eagle, CO courthouse yesterday](http://www.fresnobee.com/sports/story/7251874p-8178588c.html). How can this be? [Public courthouse spectator tickets scoffed up in the matter of minutes](http://www.statesman.com/sports/content/shared/news/0806_sidebar.html) Teeny bobbers with purple & yellow balloons chanting “Kobe is Innocent” and “We Love You, Kobe.” The ‘King of the Douche Bags,’ [Eric Tison](http://www.canoe.ca/CalgaryNews/cs.cs-08-07-0014.html), a 30 year old man who drove 3 hours in his Lakers jersey, to proclaim “I hope he’s innocent - is he signing autographs?” You’re all a bunch of star-struck idiots. Don’t you have anything better to do with your time? Do you think this man, or any other celebrity for that matter, really gives a shit about your support? Newsflash: THEY DON’T! These people you idolize and pray to wouldn’t give you the satisfaction of pissing in your face - you hopeless sheep. Do I blame the media circus for all this hoopla? No. They just feed consumers what it is they demand. Think the man’s innocent? Fine. I don’t know enough about the case to debate that point. Does the man need your support? No, you fucktards…this isn’t a political campaign – it’s a criminal trial. You’re wasting your time. A six-hour round-trip to stand around with like-minded fans? You gotta be kidding me! Go do something fun, like spending the day at the beach. Or Go do something productive, like getting a job. Or Go do something that makes a difference in society, like volunteering for a day at a rape crisis center. Don’t waste your day standing around in front of a courthouse looking awe-stuck, uninformed and stupid. Your idol is a mutli-millionaire sports superstar – the only support he needs is that of the athletic variety. ---

The odd thing is, the worse the “celebrity”, the more some small group of fans defends them. I can’t imagine Tom Hanks inspiring such mindless devotion, and he is a genuine nice guy. ---

From what I understand, this isn’t a big community, sort of like the town I grew up in, Union, SC. Remember the whole Susan Smith thing? I would get up early enough every morning that summer to make sure I could get in the court house to watch the trial. Not because I gave a shit about Susan Smith but it was summer and there’s _not much to do in Union, SC._ It was very interesting and went almost every day, including the day the verdict was read. The kids with the signs might be a bit much, but I say let the small town folks enjoy the circus for a few days, much like a young **Bruce** did back in '94 ---

In his memoir _Shock Value_ John Waters has a chapter about being a trial watcher. This was back in the 60s and 70s when there were real trials, like the Manson Family and Patty Hearst. He tells some good stories about the trials and the people who would show up for them, how they’d form a little community. Not the same as the nitwits who showed up shouting Go Kobe Go or whatever. So I’m not even sure why I broguht it up, really. ---
