“Do you believe that the Gulf War is the cause?” I don’t know, and didn’t claim to. i just suggested the gulf war as i was asked to define what I meant by a “few years”. I was asking…not telling. It’s just the defensively gratuitous grandstanders who jumped on any sign of a hint that the USA is anything but blame free who are unable to engage in rational conversation without being offensive. ---

How bout the fact (according to Karen Armstrong, “The Battle for God”) that religious fundamentalism is a relatively new breed of religion. Extremism, as I understand it is a violent form of fundamentalism and as such is also relatively new. That isn’t to say that extreme acts have not been committed in the past by non-extremists/non-fundamentalists, but the brand “Fundamentalism” is new… ---

Although I really hate to say it, nothing that happens in the Middle East/North Africa region surprises me anymore. I rarely buy a paper because I KNOW that I’ll see some article about people being killed for no reason. ---

Kuwait was already a repressive regime somewhat similar to that of Iraq, except unlike Iraq it cooperated with the U.S. If it wasn’t for their oil interests there, the U.S. probably could have cared less what happened. ---
