I loathe these sorts of “other people ruined my day” pittings. I mean, okay if you were robbed, mugged, or beaten, sure. But just because you had to adjust — slightly — some aspect of your time or circumstance in order to accomodate others, then there are always alternate points of view. You can rest assured that the OP is not a perfectly objective telling of events. You could just as easily write a pitting from the point of view of the 18-year-olds (if indeed they were). Or from the point of view of the nice man in the parking lot. The only legitimate pitting here is the drive into his play. But given the rest of the spoiled-brat bellyaching, I’m not sure that even _that_ event went down as described. Quite often, life is what you expect it to be. You find the things you’re looking for. The OP didn’t like being challenged on some of his finer points, and so he immediately launched into calling me a “snob”. Snob? What the hell? Someone who has the empathy to see the points of view of others besides the OP is a snob? So, since he was looking for a snob, I thereafter gave him a snob. All I did was make it easy for him — references to hoity toity, class struggles, and riff-raff. But that didn’t matter. He would have found snobbery in anything I wrote. After all, that’s exactly what he already did. I just think the guy needs to understand that those bipedal things out there are “other people”, and that they have just as much claim to a hassle-free afternoon as he does. I do not believe that the entire course was chock full of dicks and assholes with one solitary angelic couple floating around. If that many people thought the OP’s play was too slow and even went out of their way to mention it to him, then by god, his play was too slow. He shouldn’t be venting; he should be apologizing. ---
