May you rot in hell too. I don’t want this buried in a thread about the unfortunate incident that Mr. Moto just posted about.

Democrats have been targets too. I rounded up these in just a few minutes, but vandalism has been happening all over the country, ranging from signs being defaced and stolen, to fires being set.

> LAFAYETTE — Vandals set fire to signs and wrote pro-President Bush messages on the front of Lafayette’s Democratic Party Headquarters, the second time the office was hit by vandals.
>
> The remnants of a small fire fueled with John Kerry/John Edwards campaign signs remained on the front steps of the headquarters at 310 Buchanan St. in downtown Lafayette on Thursday morning.
>
> A mixture of ash from the fire and what appeared to be motor oil was used to smear “4+ GWB” across the front windows and “W” on the headquarters’ door.

>
> The situation could have been even more dangerous because the fire was set at the front door of the headquarters, Thompson said.

It’s the second time that office has been targeted:

> [@](#):

> TUCSON, Arizona (AP) – A 45-year-old woman collapsed and died days after learning her son had been killed in Iraq, and just hours after seeing his body.
>
> Results of an autopsy were not immediately released, but friends of Karen Unruh-Wahrer said she couldn’t stop crying over losing her 25-year-old son, Army Spc. Robert Oliver Unruh, who was killed by enemy fire near Baghdad on September 25.
>
> “Her grief was so intense – it seemed it could have harmed her, could have caused a heart attack. Her husband described it as a broken heart,” said Cheryl Hamilton, manager of respiratory care services at University Medical Center, where Unruh-Wahrer worked as a respiratory therapist.
>
> Unruh, a combat engineer, had been in Iraq less than a month when he was shot during an attack on his unit.
>
> Several days after learning of his death, his mother had gone to the hospital complaining of chest pains, Hamilton said. She was feeling better the next day but saw her son’s body Saturday morning and collapsed that night in her kitchen.
>
> Her husband, Dennis Wahrer – also a respiratory therapist – and other family members performed CPR but Unruh-Wahrer was pronounced dead that night.
>
> Autopsy results won’t be released until relatives are notified, said Dr. Bruce Parks, Pima County chief medical examiner. There was no immediate response to a call to his office before business hours Tuesday.
>
> Robert Unruh will be buried Friday at the Southern Arizona Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery. His mother’s body will accompany her son’s in the procession to the cemetery.

> (8/25/04 - HOLLYWOOD, FL) — A man who had just been told his Marine son had been killed in combat in Iraq set fire to a Marine Corps van and suffered severe burns Wednesday, police said.
>
> Three Marines went to a house in Hollywood to tell the parents of Pfc. Alexander Arredondo that the 20-year-old died Tuesday in Najaf, according to police and television reports.
> Carlos Arredondo, 44, then walked out of the house with a torch and what appeared to be a container of flammable liquid, reports said.
>
> Police said that despite the Marines’ efforts to stop him, Arredondo set the van and himself on fire. The Marines pulled him out of the burning vehicle and put out the flames, police said.
>
> Arredondo was listed in serious condition at a Miami hospital.
>
> “We have not seen this type of reaction. Every reaction is negative, it’s the loss of a loved one,” said Marines spokesman Maj. Scott Mack. “I don’t think any of us are qualified to go into the depths of the mind and truly anticipate how somebody is going to react.”

The lies of this pResident and his minions are almost too much to bear for me, who has nothing at stake. I can’t imagine what it’s like to lose a loved-one in this war.

Just to add another to the list, the Montgomery County PA Democratic offices had their [laptops stolen last month.](http://www.philly.com/mld/dailynews/news/local/9649866.htm?1c) This was probably a plain old theft with no political motivations, but it seems strange that $50 left on a desk was untouched.

Agreed with **World Eater**. Are we so partisan now we have to have tit-for-tat Pit threads on electoral violence?

Also, not to dismiss the incidents reported so far, but are there any stats showing that the number of such incidents really is up from previous national elections?

Lastly, seems to me a simple public statement from both candidates that any election-related violence is totally unacceptable would go a long way toward resolving the problem.

I opined in the other thread that merely finger pointing wasn’t a terribly productive way to handle this problem. To that end, I denounced anti-Kerry and anti-Democratic vandalism, theft, and violence as well.

I think the real problem here is blind anger, which seems to be at a fever pitch. Some politicians on both sides have decided they have something to gain from ramped-up emotions.

I think this game will leave a lot of losers at the end.

I think it’s ridiculous to ask to have this thread shut down. It’s as baldly partisan as the attacks.

If the title of the first thread were more balanced, this thread wouldn’t have been necessary.

Why don’t you guys ask the other OP to have his title changed to “Partisan attacks on campaign offices” rather than the sympathy-for-the-devil title it currently sports?

They have sweet fuck all to do with what you said was the subject of your thread.

I think they do have sweet fuck all to do with the subject. It’s a REASON why, if Democrats are cracking, these things are happening.

What the FUCK do the Republicans have to be angry about? They run everything, they own everything, they can steal and lie and do whatever the fuck they want with nary a frown from anyone but Michael Moore and some lefties.

I do NOT condone violence. I’m the most passive person and easy-going, friendly person imaginable, but that person is buried now, because of what Bushco has done, is doing, and is getting away with, and will get away with. It’s maddening.

I do NOT condone violence. I condemn it. At the same time, I understand it.

I ask again, what do Republicans have to be angry about? Why is there even ONE instance of vandalism or violence toward Democrats? Fear? Fear that “people” like Rush Limbaugh and Michael Savage and Anne Coulter drum into half-wits and pea-brains? What the fuck? Fear of WHAT? More war? More death? More fascism? Calling US brownshirts?? Jesus. Some taxes will be raised and some social programs for poor kids will use up some of it. Whoop-de-do. That’s worthy of such hatred? Fear of gays? Fear of abortion? Hey, gay marriage never killed anyone, and abortion rates have gone down, from what I hear. Good birth control and sex ed classes and they’d go down more. Even the most liberal president isn’t going to go anywhere near the edge of what the hatemongers on talk radio squawk on about.
Republicans seem to embody fear, hatred, bigotry, racism, sexism, super-selfishness, greed and petulance.

Democrats seem to embody hope, caring, giving, selflessness, tolerance.

YES OF COURSE there are exceptions and I am sure I’ll be showered with them, but those are the core philosophies to me. Yes there are greedy Democrats and tolerant Republicans. Yes there are caring Republicans and bigoted Democrats. But as a whole, as a world-view and mindset, I see Democrats having good hearts.

We’re angry, but we’re angry for concrete, verifiable deeds done by this administration that have dragged this country into the mud.

We have a _right_ and a **reason** to be angry. We have several hundred reasons to be angry.
