I was really confused by this until I re-read the op, the kids going to collage (yeah I know) that I was referring to are his own kids who he fears will not go to college if he loses the company.
I can see that not making any sense outside of my brain.

I think it was a spelling thing. Change one vowel and things turn into a mish-mosh 😉
