Did it make you feel big? Did it make you feel clever? Did it make you feel like this huge macho hunk of manhood? Did it feel really really good to punch someone? My brother is 18 years old, and had been staying with me for two weeks whilst doing a work experience placement in my department. I put him on the train home on Sunday. I called my parents on Monday evening, after my viva, and my mother informed me that my brother’s in hospital. He was at school, in the common room, doing his homework, and this other guy was messing with the lights, switching them on and off, that kind of thing. My brother, attempting to work, told this guy to stop messing. What did the other guy do? The bastard _punched_ my brother. In the eye. Currently, my brother’s eye is more or less swollen shut, he can open it partially with much pain, and his vision is blurry and double. The doctors have told my parents that my brother’s eye socket has been damaged, probably _broken_, just above the cheek. My brother’s going to have to have surgery to get it put right. To the goat-felching fuckwit who did this to my brother: What the flying fuck were you thinking??? You were asked, perfectly fucking reasonably, to stop playing with the goddamned light. And you took that as licence to punch my brother? You complete and utter fucking twat. Oh, and as for the school’s “punishment” for this waste of space, they’ve fucking suspended him _for the rest of the week only_. What the fuck? This jerk assualts another student, putting him in hospital, and you merely suspend the fucker. What the fuck???:mad: Luckily, my parents and my brother are intending to press criminal charges. Seeing as the bastard’s admitted it, he’ll probably get charged with “Actual Bodily Harm”. But, because the idiot’s admitted it, he’ll more than likely simply be given “community service” or whatever they’re calling it these days. Aaargh. It makes me so fucking mad. :mad: :mad: :mad: :mad: ---

Fuck knows what the kid was thinking. I sure as hell don’t know. The docs have said that they’re going to re-asess the situation once the swelling’s gone down, and I talked to my brother today, and he seems OK, but then, he was always one for putting on a brave face. ---

Ok, I am not an attorney, but I think your family should consult with one. Someone has to pay for the medical care, and it might as well be the bully’s family. Furthermore, since your brother will likely be going to the same school as the bully, your brother’s safety needs to be ensured. ---

Was the other guy drunk or on drugs? I can’t think of any other reason he’d react so violently to what I presume was just a polite but firm request from your brother. If so, you could seek additional charges to press against the jerk who hit your brother. Please do keep us posted on the progerss of his recovery and any legal proceedings that take place as a result of this incident. ---

Well, medical care isn’t an issue - we’re in the UK, NHS and all that. The police are involved now, and are talking to my parents at the moment. I think that they will be advising a restraining order of some sort as well as pressing criminal charges. ---

Well, the police have been, taken statements, and gone. Charges are being pressed. It seems that the fucker’s parents rang up the school apologised profusely, and then had the cheek to request that “if we apologise to **AnguaBrother** and **AnguaParents** , will they drop charges?” My parents, naturally have told them, rather politely, I thought, where exactly to go. My brother’s condition is improving slightly, he can open his eye a bit more now, but he’s still in a lot of pain. Luckily, the lens of his glasses didn’t shatter or anything like that, which is a relief. He’s suffering from severe concussion though - he can’t stand because it makes him feel dizzy, and he’s extremely photosensitive at the moment. The police are angling for a charge of actual bodily harm, which, iirc from my days working in a criminal defence legal firm, means that a custodial sentence is likely. The medical bills aren’t an issue - there’s no such thing over here (unless you go for private medical care), so that’s one less thing to have to worry about. My brother’s currently in shock. He can’t understand why, totally unprovoked, this kid would hit him. I can’t understand it either, and judging from what my brother’s told me, there’s no history of racism or anything there either. I’d just like to say thank you to everyone who’s chimed in with their kind words (and vitriol against this bastard), it makes me realise the true nature of the community here, and makes me very proud and happy to be a part of it. I feel like I have friends in all of you. Thank you. ---

Oh, and to answer the question about whether this idiot was under the influence of something, it appears not. It seems that he was acting perfectly normally, and the attack was totally unprovoked. ☹ :mad: ---

I am so sorry about this **Angua**. The school’s reaction is not surprising as they did about the same thing here in the States when my best friend was attacked in high school. Two students from another school were at our building for a football game. A $50 bet was placed that guy #1 wouldn’t dare punch the first person he saw. Bet was accepted, and my friend’s jaw was broken in eight places. The student was charged and was off with a couple of months probabtion and a two week suspension from school. We played sports against his school regularly and ran in to him a couple of times a year when we would compete against their school. I just don’t know what the schools could be thinking here. I hope he gets better soon and congratulations on not accepting the lame apology. Good luck to you and your family. ---

I don’t know if this works the same way over there, but maybe you could get the bastard to write some poetry about suicide or murder or something, or maybe just have him draw a stick figure with a gun. When I was a senior in high school, the quarterback of the football team attacked another senior. The victim had to be rushed to the hospital because his face was torn up in several places. He came back to school a few days later with stitches in his forehead, and around his chin and cheekbones, and a broken nose. The quarterback got a two day suspension from school. Customary suspension for fighting in my school is three days. They left him off with two so he could return to school on Friday and be eligible to play in the big football game. I was so disgusted, as were most of my classmates. The reason for the attack? The quarterback thought the senior was “talking bad about him,” which he wasn’t, but whatever.
