BTW, at highway speeds you don`t need to be tailgating anyone to get the shit-spray from their tires. Even little things that get thrown off of tires can bounce around and do damage when they are going seventy miles per hour. This is why I`ve always wondered why criminals have never carried nails, ballbearings, jumping jacks, or other assorted small dangerous things to throw out the window at the cops chasing them. At least I`ve never heard of this happening. ---

But it’s something that I spent (and am still spending) a fair amount on and put a decent amount of time into to keep it up. And someone came in and negated much of the effort I’ve put into taking care of my car. I know it could have been much worse. Someone who panicked and suddenly jerked their steering wheel in an effort to get out of the way, possibly causing an accident. Luckily, it didn’t turn out that way. The point is that some careless, oblivious, unthinking person did something incredibly stupid that, had he not been careless, oblivious and unthinking, could have easily been avoided. This person’s actions led to an event with an outcome that will cost me in both time and money. It may cost me even more later if this somehow affects the car’s resale value. If he had been paying attention and waited _just one second_ before changing lanes, this never would have happened. However, I don’t know how or why it got there or why it wasn’t yet removed. My best guess is that the glass was a the result of a smashed up headlight from a fender-bender earlier (although it seemed like more glass that just a headlight’s worth). I was driving shortly after commute time on a stretch that usually backs up to a stand-still. Small incident, with no cops, highway crews, tow trucks, etc. to clean up afterwards. Thanks to those who understand and sympathize. ---

A personal possession was damaged through another person’s thoughtlessness, and the OP must now pay to have it repaired. The event itself, however, was not trivial. The driver of the minivan carelessly (or perhaps even maliciously) endangered the OP’s life with his actions. Sending broken glass flying into the front of a moving car at highway speeds is not a harmless little inconvenience, it can easily cause an accident.
