To the obese woman whose cell phone rang at the tomb of the unknown soldier

Was there someone else who suggested we should give the person a pass because they might have a physical handicap? If so, I totally missed it.

You seemed to be against the OP’s bile, non-specifically. People are taking issue with the racial and body image comments he made-- OK, fine, I think they have too much time on their hands, but at least they are not berating the guy for being angry. And if you’re going to call me a hypocrite, I think I want a CITE.

If it’s true of so many of your posts, then why shouldn’t someone note it?

It was specific to his knee-jerk response to what was probably just an error on someone’s part. Because I seriously doubt he’s never made an error that annoyed someone and therefore he doesn’t get to berate other people for it. Because the entire content of his rant showed the poverty of his thinking process, including the slurs about weight and gender. Because I think the world has too much shit going on already and people getting that mad over stupid little things is ridiculous and deserves pitting.

I know people who live in trailers. They park non-running vehicles in the the un-mowed yard. They have mullets and wear old Foghat T-shirts with the sleeves torn off and if you call them white trash they will lift up the bottle of Jack (that they drinking straight from) and yell, “Fuckin’ A”. They do this* by choice.*

Wow, this is just not how the world works. He doesn’t get to be upset that this woman seemingly showed flagrant disrespect not only for the solemnity of where she was, but also for all the people around her? It wasn’t just the fact that a phone went off (though people like me with zero cellphone usage CAN actually claim that no, we’ve never made an error like this before, and despise it when it happens), it was that it had SUCH an obnoxious ringtone.

The woman the OP rants about was inconsiderate and selfish. Why can’t he bitch about it here if he wants? Why did you decide that he wasn’t allowed to rant? Do you go into every Pit thread wherein someone complains about someone else and tell them all that since they aren’t perfect, they shouldn’t berate others? How do you pick and choose who will feel your righteous wrath and who is spared?

Then OPEN YOUR OWN PIT THREAD. This one is for ranting about the woman who disturbed the OP and many others. His mentions of gender were not out of place. His mention of her weight? Eh, not necessary but certainly not as offensive as a lot of shit said here.

Some people are really, really bothered by the intrusions made into their lives by cellphones. I am one of those people, so to me it’s a good rant, with some points lost for the “obese” comment. Seems to me like YOU, not the OP are the person who is wasting time getting so mad over stupid little things in this thread, like the OP using this forum for its intended purpose. That makes YOU the hypocrite, no shock there.

Stupid ringtone…hmmmm I guess I sort of get you. I think that’s a dumb one too, but you know to each his own. If she was older, she and her fellow little old ladies might have thought it was cute. Was she an LOL? That ringtone and her forgetfullness leads me to believe she was.

As to the volume? I have to admit, I keep mine full volume as well, I work around a lot of loud stuff (F-15s for instance :D). I usually remember to turn it to vibrate, (ALWAYS when in theatres and stuff) but occasionally I’ve forgotten (once in a staff meeting, luckily our company has a collective good humor).

You forgot the worst of it. That call was a neighbor, trying to alert her that her declawed cat was outside without water!

I wager not a single one of the Unknowns heard it. So she forgot to turn her cell phone off. I’ve done it myself. She turned it off when it did. Now that gives you license to rant about her weight, which might well be due to factors beyond her control.

And had the OP simply screamed obscenities at the stupid fat bitch, rather than narrating the story in a forum populated by indulgent fantasists, he could’ve blamed his own coprolalia.

Lesson learned, tofergregg?

Is that really your rebuttal? That none of the Unknowns could hear it? Or are you rationalizing because you’ve done it too, and the OP’s post makes you realize just what an asshole everyone around you thinks you are every time you let it happen?

You can forgive that horrendous ring tone that was totally disrespectful to all other people around her and the setting, but you can’t forgive someone angrily ranting and mentioning the appearance of the source of their ire? More projecting here?

I bet if there was a ‘Mass Grave of Unlamented Assholes’ prominently labeled directly across from the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, folks might behave better.
