Sounds like a lot of people on this thread need to figure out how to break that damn childproof seal off of the valium bottle and lighten the fuck up. And before Primaflora starts jumping up and down screaming that I don’t belong in the club, I’d like to say that I too have had much experience with the disabled. My god, I’ve never had the displeasure of seeing so many holier-than-thou attitudes in one place! You’d better be careful, with all of you balanced so precariously on that high horse, you’re libel to fall at any time. Primaflora, grendal72 and Esprix: get over yourselves. ---

I merely make the observance that bad satire/comedy/irony/whatever **Sam** ’s calling it is just that - trying to work it up into some kind of smug artform is best left to those with more expertise. For the record, I read but did not post to **Scylla** ’s thread, and originally I was just asking for a clarification of the OP in this one, since most of the rigamarole herein is hard to discern. Gee Esprix, I didn’t realize you were the know all, end all of comic satire/irony whatever. I wasn’t aware that your opinion was law. I don’t know, I could’ve SWORN I observed a number of people that said they enjoyed the OP. But those people weren’t you, and therefore, don’t count. I realize that now. They must’ve ended up taking a double dose of Repressitall. The other thread aside, I like the pit because I have a dark sense of humour. I can watch a horror flick and experience great pleasure when the stupid camper gets served a dose of death for being a pure idiot. I don’t really want teens murdered, however. Likewise I like a good ethnic joke or a religious joke, or a disease/hadicap joke, or a momma joke. Does this make me bad? Is it impossible to find these things humorous without wishing these groups ill? Does everyone who enjoys a dirty joke book instantly become evil scum? I also find it perplexing that the only jokes I should be able to make are the ones that make fun of the group that I am in. I can tell Irish jokes, or white-people jokes, but not black people jokes or Polish jokes? Bizarre. What if I never revealed my color, race, or gender? The internet affords this type of anonymous interaction. The joke is funny or not dependent on who I am, not how I tell the joke? I must disagree emphatically with this commonly held (around here, anyway) position. Personally, I feel that anyone can tell these jokes, give in to black humour as it were, and still not bear any ill will torwards any of the people who are the butt of the jokes. That’s not to say that everyone who tells these type of jokes are not bigoted. Truly, some must be. My point is that they don’t HAVE to be. But then again maybe I’m just an evil fuck. Who knows. I like Eddie Murphy, Chris Roc & Andrew Dice Clay, I have over 10 dirty joke books, I like rap music, and I kid around with my friends in a highly aggressive manner. Judge me for that if you wish. Nothing like riding your horse around the moral high ground to make you feel better than others. Either way, I don’t have any problem sleeping nights. I’ve found many wonderfull people that I call friends who are kind and loving souls. We like to swear and joke around and diss each other (and everyone else) for fun, but at the end of the day these are people I know to be good, in spite of how you may judge our senses of humour. These are kind people. Loving people. People who help others. People who make the world worth living in as far as I’m concerned. DaLovin’ Dj ---

I have a buddy, made a movie about Crips, that is, the Disabled. He wasnt born disabled, it happened to him, but he found about the central core of thier collective resentment: that you have to feel _sorry_ for them before you wil make even the most minor concession to thier needs. Vonnnegut fans amongst you might remember the scene where the mistress calls the servent girl to witness the sunrise, and the servant suddenly realises she is expected to say “Thank You” (Those who don’t, hie hence to a bookstore for _God Bless You, Mister Rosewater_) When I first read the original, this was my thought. That somebody (I forget: **Cilia** , or something like that) was complexed by thier Directive For Compassion challenged by the Avatar of Envy. Alas. I was too mad at **Scylla** from **matt’s** thread about **clayton\_e’s** beating to post evenhandedly in the viper thread. He had a thought and he posted it here to be examined and commented on. No biggie. But what happened after that? He could have acknowledge that his OP was offensive. Sure it’s a thought that many of us may have, but anyone with any bit of decency could see how the thought could be offensive. Scylla is a decent man, I think, so he knows _why_ some people were very offended. He could have apologized or he could have looked down from his superior moral and intellectual vantage point and tell the plebes that they have no sense of humor. Which did he choose? I’m just wondering why he chose to go that way. ---

**Biggirl** I’ll try to answer your question: First off, I was angry for having been so thoroughly condemned that I didn’t want to budge an inch. I thought the reaction was far worse and hurtful then anything I did, and that it was deliberate. Even after I cooled off and thought about, I was still angry. I got the sense (and perhaps it’s wrong,) that the anger was very deliberate and had at it’s heart a specific purpose which had nothing to do with what was written. I thought that purpose was a bad one, that I shouldn’t allow myself to be coerced into. I still do. So I decided to respond to two people who expressed objections politely and handle those as they deserved ( I chose Fenris and Dignan) and respond to a couple of others who were hateful as I felt they deserved. I got pissed that only the latter got noticed, and thought about leaving the boards, and I still will if I can’t make my presence a constructive one again. In the final analysis though it was just a very badly written OP, and hopefully I can avoid that again, by taking more care with my writing in the future. Does that help? ---
