Bus wife and i have a standard routine when a server or anyone makes a comment about her paying. We grin and she’ll say something along the lines of “He can’t use his card, his wife checks the statements…” Stops them in their tracks every time. Proper responses in this instance: 1. Witty, smart-ass retort. 2. Contact the manager on duty and ask for the name and address to whom you may direct a customer service complaint. If he says “me”, refuse. he’s the flunky working a shift and likely is doing Ms. Counter Bitch after they get off, and he’ll do nothing. 3. Direct a letter to appropriate parties, asking for a written reply. 4. Come to the Pit and vent and spew, using all known profanity, because, yeah that’s what it’s here for. In between 2 and 3, instead of stewing in anger ruining your movie experience, sit and grin, comfortable in the knowledge that you’ll get to accomplish steps 3 and 4. ---

See, now this one of those situations where my patented big, wide, gapped open mouth smile while slowly bringing my hand up shooting the bird and raising my eyebrows a couple of times real quick is always appropriate. Even with the smile and eyebrow twitching, people tend to find it intimidating which amuses me greatly. Then, it’s over and I’m not mad any more. ---
