I’d have been angry at the cashier too. She overstepped the mark. She’s payed to hand tickets out, not comment on a customer’s domestic arrangements. ---

This is only marginally relevant, except in the sense of withholding snappy comebacks to clueless counter help… I occasionally buy stuff at Barnes and Noble and have always turned down their offer to have me pay for a discount on purchases (“It’s only $20 (or whatever) now, but you’ll save $$ in the future!”). So the counter idjit yesterday asks me if I have a B&N discount. “No.” (with moderate emphasis). “Well, do you know what the discount _is?_”. At this point it took enormous restraint for me not to put on a ferocious snarl and say, **Hah! I SPIT on your discount!!!** Maybe next time. ---

There’s a difference between some nobody on the street or behind him in line harassing him, and an employee who is _paid_ to serve customers and expected to treat them with courtesy. I work at a University, so I come in contact and have to deal with many people every day. During September, I’m having to interact with thousands of students a week. No matter what kind of day I’m having, I treat them with the professional courtesy that’s expected of me, and I don’t step outside that line. That bitchy worker at the theatre is under the obligation of her job to follow the same rules. If someone who employed at a place I was giving MY money to treated me, unprovoked, with such rudeness as the OP was treated, you’re damn well right it would get under my skin. He has every right to be angry about it. I would tell the manager. She should at least get a reprimand, which might make her think differently about how she treats customers. ---

She was there to sell a movie ticket, not to voice her opinions or try and force it on the the wife in question. If I had ever said that to a customer while I was working in retail, I would not only have kicked my own ass for being so rude and stupid, but I would’ve been fired on the spot. That is no way to talk to a customer who is paying good money so that you can take home a paycheck every week. Whatever happened to “the customer is always right”, and in that sense, either customer can pay because its right for them. Perhaps the OPs rant was harsh and maybe even a little psycho, but that girl really didnt have any right. ---
