I’m not sure where this belongs. If the mods see fit to move it, forgive me for creating extra work for you.
May I post a question to this “glorious” group. What is more important to you…A high post count or the fact that your post actually added something to the thread?

Do you wear your post count as a medal of sorts? Or do you get satisfaction that you might have helped someone?

Is your post count the most important thing to you?

In other words, Do you post for the thread or just to boost your post count?

Is posting just to boost your count a good thing?

Lastly, why do you brag about it?

“Glorious”? The latter. No. Yes. No. The former. No. I don’t.

I think post-counts are meaningless, with the caveat that very occasionally a person who is obviously new will act totally inappropriately, and you can look at his or her post-count and figure that their newness explains it.

But I think it’s ridiculous to say, based _solely_ upon a high post count, "when you have been here as long as I have, grasshopper, you will be wiser in the ways of the Board . . . "

Some people around here with low post counts are freaking brilliant. Some people with high post counts are not. Most of us are somewhere in the middle, regardless of what our post count may be.

Is this something that crops up often? I mean, honestly, I haven’t seen anyone crowing lately about how many posts they’ve accrued. . . .

Any examples, **Reeder**?

Thanks, **Reeder**. Soem observations, based solely on the OP of the linked thread:

1. It’s in MPSMMSPMMIMPS. By forum definition, it’s mundane and pointless.

2. Post count parties are silly, but they generally don’t pretent to be anything other than a “You’ve been here a while and I like you and you have a big, round number\* beside your SN.”

2a) It looks like people have their little post count parties around the time they hit a big, round number\* of posts, but I see no evidence that they have been posting specifically to have a party.

1. Of course people post fluff. Take away the posts with little or no factual content, and the boards would fit on my laptop’s hard drive, and this would certainly be a duller place.
Possibly, some people post fluff for the sole purpose of incrementing their count–but I have seen no evidence of this. Do you have any?

- It’s BIIIIIIIG and ROOOOOUUND.

I agree with Jodi, insofar as sometimes a post count will explain/excuse certain actions.

The other side of her point would be the occasions when someone is a flaming asshole, but has a significant posting history to show that it was just a bad day. I believe there are certainly things a regular can get away with (ie having a bad day, not being a jerk) that a newbie couldn’t. Not being a mod I can’t say this for sure, of course, but it seems that with significant apology people have been forgiven, whereas someone with a post count of 50 would quite possibly just be given the boot.

In much the same way that if your spouse threw the remote across the room because Buffy was pre-empted vs. the person you’re on a first date with, no?

As has been said many times before, it’s quality that counts and not quantity. As most posters know, there are several posters that have a very high post count but all they’ve posted is ‘fluff’ and few posters even bother to read what they post, a lot of newer posters might be intrigued by it.
I would rather contribute to a thread than to just post for the sake of posting. Some days I may post a lot, depending on the threads going, other times I may not post anything for days.
Observation is the trick. I’ve noticed several posters that post basically nothing of interest yet they go from forum to forum. Doesn’t take long to spot them. And some have a heavy following of like-type posters. It’s all in what you are looking for. No harm done, to each his own.

I’d like to think I’ve contributed to this board in some significant way, but high numbers are no guarantee of that, so I concentrate on the quality.

Both, really - I’m proud of both accomplishments.

Nope.

Nope, although certainly not everything I post is of tantamount importance.

I don’t think this is a problem with anyone.

> [@](#):

Because it’s an accomplishment. The value of it, however, is determined from person to person.

Or the person with the low post count will act totally inappropriately, and turns out its a different screen name for a banned poster, who knows the rules and just don’t think they should apply to him/her.
