To what degree do you believe in God ?

Deist where God = Universe (not quite, but close enough). No answer because I suspect that is not your definition of God.

Sure enough! The religion of atheism!

I’m a theist.

I once read where some philosopher once said that selecting a category added too much credence to the other categories.

I am not simply not interested.

Once again the Family Circus has already covered this topic

As I found dimes under my pillow as a child, I have considerably more evidence that the Tooth Fairy exists. Oh yeah, I woke up to presents at Christmas, so Santa Claus is marginally more plausible than God.

I keep responding to these polls no matter how many of them we have, so I guess answerin’ anuduh one couldn’t hoit.

‘I simply do not believe in a god’ is closest to where I stand, although my true position is ‘gods don’t exist’ so, once again, the poll options are inadequate.

Actually much more plausible, since the claims made about them aren’t nearly as extreme. “God” is unusually implausible even as gods go, what with all the omni-omni-omni stuff claimed about him.

Eh, our house didn’t have a chimney, so Santa’s method of entry, at least, was pretty damn implausible.

You presumably had air vents of some sort, they could serve. Just imagine Santa as a white-and-red version of the liquid metal Terminator.

Plus, you can show your kids Terminator 2 and claim they hired Santa Claus to play the part. “See kids? If you’re good, Santa brings presents. If you’re bad, metal spike though the eye!”

Ok, Santa beats God’s ass.

*I believe as sure as 2 + 2 = 4 *

. . . or in my case, “not bloody possible.”

With the exception of the Deist general concept;

All the gods I’ve seen proposed (including all the ones I know of that were generally discarded before I was born, and there were quite a lot): I simply don’t believe in them, not just because there is no evidence, but more strongly because they’re simply unbelievable, meaning I think their existence requires unimaginable amounts of evidence to be credible, given the plain reality of the world.

In addition, practically all of the proposed gods are not just unbelievable; they’re immoral, meaning they’re not worthy of respect (for that sense of “belief”) even if they did exist. They’re nothing more than bullies and liars that happen to be stronger than us.

The Deist “god” concept is the only one I know of where lack of evidence is the main objection. But the Deist “god” can hardly be called a god (and in my view, shouldn’t be called a god) at all, so I don’t really object to the possibility.

As sure as 2+2=4

If asked “Is there a god?”, the only factual answer that one can give is, “I don’t know and neither does anyone else.”

If told “There is a god”, there is only one response that can be given: “Prove it”.

Luckily for you, neither is the question.

Is that so…

So tell me…Assuming it can’t be proven that God exists, what would that prove?

Of course, the fact that this is wrong only demonstrates you have the greatest of faiths.

If I asked if you if you believed in Santa Clause would you say “The only factual answer I can give…” or would you just say no? Keep in mind that there’s more evidence for the existence of Santa than there is for the existence of God.
