Anyone else remember that old song? [Ode to Billie Jo](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nv33eaygVDQ) How did it affect you? Interestingly if you google images of that bridge its only a short drop and its doubtful anyone would die jumping off of it. ---

Love, LOVE that song. Always moved me how she doesn’t just sing a song, but paints such a deep story. Makes me feel like I’m at the supper table. I’ve always felt it was wildly under appreciated. ---

To me it brings back memories: Living in Texas in the 70’s before we had air conditioning. Working on a farm baling hay. I’m thinking chopping cotton in June would mean cutting out weeds. The frustration of youth in a small town. ---
It’s also the day Neil Diamond became a man at the hands of a girl almost twice his age.
And I listened to that song about an hour ago. And I didn’t notice the date in the song. [Next page](https://boards.straightdope.com/t/today-marks-the-anniversary-of-billy-jo-mcalester-jumping-off-the-tallahassee-bridge/854996.md?page=2)
