I was referring to item 1 in the OP, but I like Derleth’s answer. ![]()
so what is MSN, anyway? I’ve not heard of it.
Microsoft’s big appendage in the Internet, originally a dial-up “online content provider” (walled garden) like AOL used to be: In the original idea, you’d subscribe to MSN (then called The Microsoft Network) and get all of your network stuff (news, information, email, etc.) through that, as opposed to ever having to deal with the big, scary, impossible-to-navigate, and utterly not-profitable-for-Microsoft Internet. That was what the people really wanted, after all.
That launched in 1995. In 1996, MSN 2.0 included Internet access.
MSN is still a dial-up ISP and Microsoft has done some deals with Verizon and other broadband ISPs to bundle it into some of their services as well.
Other than that, it’s just a web page. A web page I haven’t visited in I can’t remember how long.
Me either, and I figured probably likewise for most- so I was* shocked* to discover MSN.com is currently the 11th most visited website!?
You’re related to the OP?
I assume it’s issued as the default homepage in Internet Explorer, and if you’re using IE, you’re probably not computer literate enough to change your homepage.
