That’s…interesting. I would swear that Bill/Jeff Keane wouldn’t know a Warhammer 40,000 if it hit them in the power armor. ---

It’s not inconceivable to me that he would know about Warhammer 40K and might even play it for all I know. Or maybe his kids do. ---

I wonder if maybe he’s just writing down his kid’s quote word for word and putting it in the comic, as a sort of ‘Kids Say The Darnedest Things’ thing? Still weirdly specific and out of nowhere. ETA: Oh, I think I see what the joke is supposed to be. Mom is dragging out all these old, simple, classic fabric costumes for the kids, and Billy suddenly decides he wants to go from the easiest costume ever to something not only highly specific, but strange and difficult/expensive to do, presumably right on Halloween when that kind of thing can’t be done short-term. Still weird. ---

Since his kids are probably in their 30s, I doubt their mom was making their costumes for them in 2009 (when the game Sgt Tarkus was introduced in came out). Grandkids, maybe. (Though, of course, if he was transcribing the request exactly, the kid probably would have said ‘40k’, not ‘40,000’. I don’t think anybody but Games Workshop uses 40,000.) ---
