Not even close. The BBC lied their asses off during WWII.
I can’t remember exactly which book I read it in (probably “Neptune’s Inferno” by James Hornsfischer) but it mentioned the sinking of one American ship wasn’t announced until three months after the battle. The enlisted survivors were quarantined to base in San Diego but not the officers. Which, as you can guess, the enlisted were pretty pissed about.
