Tom Cruise pressures Paramount into blocking South Park ep in the UK

Anyone who wants to see 5 minutes of it can do so free online.

Just go here.

Tom Cruise in the Closet

The whole episode is on You Tube - www.youtube.com - search for “scientology.”

OK, just watched it on You Tube. The biggest problem I had with it was the unfunny labouring of the ‘in the closet’ gag. Yawn. And while IANA libel lawyer, I don’t see how there’d have been a hope in hell of a successful case.

Of course, it depends on the definition of “successful case”. If it ever did go to court, the legal fess would be huge for both sides. Tom Cruise might be the biggest douche in the Universe, but if he’s prepared to spend a bunch of cash on the case, that might be enough to scare off Comedy Central/Paramount. That could easily be seen as a win.

OK- a South Park ep is not a masterpiece of technical precision…

dub in new names for Tom & John & R Kelly, put beards on their faces- problem solved!

Is The Register a real newspaper or a tabloid?
This story from the IMDB is in the ‘celebrity news’ section and those stories are always full of truthiness.

That is where I read that Mr. Bean would play Lord Voldmort in HP 4.

Still no cite for this claim?

Thanks for the link! I am going to email this to lots of friends, especially to one friend whose life was almost ruined by Scientology…I can tell you horror stories of her few years there. BTW, if you ever meet a Scientologist and want to piss them off, tell them to “blow the org”…which is Scientology speak for “get out of the organization”. Apparently, only those in the cult know the phrase so they get freaked out and think you were once “one of them”.

I am not a big South Park fan, but I thought this episode was brilliantly done.

And yes, Tom Cruise is a dick.

OK, so I was extrapolating from news reports, which on further inspection all ascribe their information to ‘an insider’ or refer to The Register, such as this: Python Shared Hosting

“…is believed to have threatened…”?

Don’t they know?

US newspapers and magazines in general seem, dare I say it, staid and docile compared to the British press, not just the tabloids. I’m always interested to compare and contrast little things like that when I visit another country, and that’s the impression I have of US print media. It’s all so well-behaved.

So I think it’s more of a cultural thing than any difference in libel laws.

South Park nitpick: the “Biggest Douche in the Universe” honor, AFAIK, is still held by John Edwards. Maybe it’s time for Trey and Matt to reprise that extraterrestrial contest and crown a new winner?

Nitpicking your nitpick, John Edward is the biggest douche in the universe. John Edwards is mearly a politician.

I don’S or their parent comt know why anyone would think that Tom Cruise has more money for lawyers than PARAMOUNT PICTURES or their parent company VIACOM.
I don’t think this story is true at all.

I emailed the question about whether or not the episode will be rebroadcast on CC to the South Park Studios website. If they answer it, it’ll be in their FAQ in the next week or so.

Heh, I had a bad feeling about it but was too lazy to look it up. (Besides, missing a fake psychic and hitting failed-pres.-candidate pay dirt is sort of a lateral move, anyway.) I count myself lucky I didn’t go with “Jonathan Edwards,” he of early-17th-C. American history.

When I think about it, I’m struck by the pathos (or in this case, rather, bathos*) of it all… how we take for granted Our Greatest Douchebags; how quickly we forget them! How fleeting fame is; what thin gruel, its glory…

bathos: 1a) A ludicrously abrupt transition from an elevated to a commonplace style. b) An anticlimax. 2a) Insincere or grossly sentimental pathos. b) Triteness or dullness.

Every time Cruise pulls something like this, he just convinces more people he’s gay.
