His last 3 albums have all been in a pretty rootsy style, with a lot of gospel, blues, folk and country songs. They’re all very good albums, probably my favourite ones he’s done. ---

Yep, I live in one of those overpriced flats on Ashley Down. The whole area was like a Tom Jones festival for the evening, which was really nice (though I feel especially slender and untanned in comparison to his devotees…). Tom Jones is my mom’s favorite singer. She would always be gushing about how much she loved “Tom Baby” when I was growing up, which obviously stamped him in my mind as music for old people. So it was beyond bizarre when I was in college and he was being pushed to people my age. I can’t say that I wound up becoming a fan, but I have to admit that “If I Only Knew” was actually kind of catchy. Heck, I can still remember the hook all these years later. ---
