Tom Seaver has been diagnosed with dementia.

As a Mets fan Seaver was my first sports hero. I was 9 when he was traded and I remember that I couldn’t understand why they would trade their best player (still don’t). When Seaver returned to the Mets in 1983 My friend and I skipped school to go to the game. Seaver vs. Carlton. Tom Terrific threw 6 shutout innings as the Mets won 2-0.

Sad to hear.

Here’s a [great article](http://www.sportsonearth.com/article/64585192/) that the writer Pat Jordan did on Seaver a few years back. Not a short read, but gives a great sense of the man. He was already dealing with some health issues at that time.
