You read into that the element of me being unaware that other people might be reading the thread, and now have added the element that if I don’t care if other people read theads, I must be unaware that they do. You also extrapolated from my entire post the three words you apparently felt you could take issue with, which I felt was nit-picking. In your response now, you have reiterated your misunderstanding, but disregarded the other things I was irked by – the smilie,the nitpicking, the assumption that I must not have ever caught on that the “viewed” column indicates people may actually be viewing, feeling instead that you must “conclusively demonstrate” something obvious for my benefit – again, because I’m such an idiot, I guess. Namely that he is a former fundamentalist, or at least a person raised fundamentalist but who later rejected religion; that he has concluded that it is not intolerant religion that is the problem, but religion itself since it contains the premise of absolute not-rationally-derived values; and that he views liberal religion as an insidious trick that by creating a middle ground, hinders the desired elimination of religion,and can’t stand that we’re falling for it.
And who has decided that the way to fight the good fight is… to seek out liberal believers and make their lives personaly miserable. Because, of course, to him a sympathetic and well-liked liberal believer is a terrible obstacle that makes us weak, wishy-washy, cheese-eating-appeasement-monkeys on the [soft-atheist/agnostic/lapsed believer/deist/folks who are not pious but know love and respect a believer] camp NOT join the grand battle. Better drive them off the field and gloat about it later.

For some reason I think we interacted in more that just those two threads, but I don’t think I could search it any better than you did. I don’t know that she ever stated she liked me but she was always cordial and agreeable with me, which is evidenced in both of the above threads, and is in sharp contrast to how most liberal Christians, including Polycarp, responded to me. Take that for what it’s worth.
I totally agree and have argued as much in the past. Regarding Sam Harris, I recommend you read his book. I think End of Faith started out great, but gets a little foo foo at the end, but overall it’s a pretty good read.
Well, I guess we can’t always agree. 
I disagree, for example there was a time I would debate religion on the basis of evolution vs creationism, historical evidence etc, and I don’t think it went anywhere. Anyone who has read one of the pro-creationism books will have a ready answer for why evolution is wrong and educating them is far to time consuming. In my experience pointing out that Jesus/god was immoral works a little better, is a lot faster, and even when it doesn’t work, at least you get to see them squirm. YMMV.

Nope. I don’t see much value in it either. I have no problem in calling a fool, a fool, or a hypocrite a hypocrite. Any Christian who calls me a fool is a hypocrite. For the record, I don’t recall you ever doing so, and I appreciated your sticking up for me after my suspension.

I think in the spirit of this board we should fight all ignorance. I think ignorance (an umbrella under which I place all forms of superstition including religion) should be fought and stamped out. For the most part this board is very good at this. However, liberal Christianity is given a pass for various reasons, all of which I think I understand, but none of which I think are adequate. My goal is to rectify this situation and to have beliefs respected based on their supporting evidence, not on their number of adherents. In doing so I have put considerable amount of effort in to reasoned arguments, which I think you have read. Also in keeping with Schopenhauer, I don’t think you can always reason a person out of a belief. As such I make a certain use of ridicule. I often compare religion to racism. There are still a lot of people who hold racist beliefs, but will not make a racist statement in public. Not because they think their beliefs are unreasonable, but only because they fear the ridicule they would get in a society they know is becoming less accepting of their views. I think this societal pressure over time does lessen the ills of racism, and could do the same for religion, without have to resort to policies that impede our freedoms.
If I think about it long enough, everything I or anyone does is a waste of time.
