In that, uh, classic video, Toni is wearing a cheerleader’s outfit with the initials “LVH” on the sweater. What’s the “LVH” stand for? ---

I kinda figured that. Thanks. Anybody else hear the UL that the cheerleaders in the video were actually men in drag? IIRC, they were from a local college. ---

I didn’t realize it until I saw a special about 80’s videos, but Toni Basil was almost 40 years old when she made that video - she had been in music since the early 60’s. So she’d be over 60 now. ---

Just checked an old database of California driver’s license/voter registrations: ANTONIA C BASILOTTA 22-SEP-43 She and Teri Garr used to be go-go dancers on _Hullabaloo_ in the 1960s, and they’re in Nancy Sinatra’s video of _These Boots Are Made for Walkin’_. ---

No, no…all of the cheerleaders are women. They’re just all very, very athletic women. I swear she raided a softball team or two to cast that thing… ---

What about the interpretation that “Mickey” wouldn’t hook up with her because he was gay? Well, I thought it put an interesting spin on things… ---

Damned if I can find it online though. Everything online says she was head cheerleader. ---

I seem to recall seeing that she hadn’t actually been on the LVH cheerleading squad on Pop-Up Video, not that that’s the world’s best cite. They also said that “Mickey” had originally been intended to be sung by a guy about a girl, and Toni Basil just changed the name, which puts yet another different spin on the “I’ll take it like a man” line. ---
