For the wife, her favorite vodka martini: Ketel One, Noilly Prat dry vermouth, two jalapeno olives and a splash of juice. For me, a Just Off The Bus Manhattan: Russell’s Reserve Rye, sweet vermouth, three cherries, splash of cherry juice, extra shots of bitters (make up your own story). Both shaken over ice.

Oooh, can you mix up some olive juice, with just a splash of gin in it? 'cause I’d definitely drink that! (I’m trying to decide whether I’m serious, and…I think I am!)

I spent 3 hours today raking and hauling leaves to the front of the house and tried to breathe in my hair so I am exhausted and have a very irritated throat so I’ll be in this corner with my tea and a shot of amaretto.

My go-to is “Sapphire, up, olives.”
I’ll usually frown if they ask if I want some fancy bleu-cheese stuffed olive, but I’ll be polite in saying “no, thank you.”
I do enjoy a dirty martini from time to time, but 9 times out of 10 it’s my go-to.
Now, my poor dad has a terrible habit of ordering **his** martinis as vodka (he doesn’t care which kind) on the rocks with a twist of lemon. I swear, the vodka martini is a boomer thing. All my age 50s and 60s -ish coworkers order it that way. Why order a martini unless you want to taste it? 😃

Put the neighbours’ animals to bed for the night, and now I’m relaxing in the hot tub and starting up a DVD (Mordecai Richler’s “[Barney’s Version](http://rogerebert.suntimes.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20110119/REVIEWS/110119981/1023)”). A nice way to end the day. Splish splash, all y’all.

Sounds good!
My version: the first half of the jigger (pointy, small end that is) is dry vermouth, then top up with Albert Springs Aged 10 years Canadian Whiskey. Another full jigger of Whiskey, 2 dashes of bitters. Mix in a cocktail shaker with crushed ice. Pour into Old Fashioned glass with one ice cube, add 3 maraschino cherries and 1 teaspoon of cherry juice. Heaven.

That is exactly why I switched to martinis a short while back. Good neutral spirits might leave me a little muzzy the next morning, but nothing like the hangovers I would get from scotch overindulgence. (Which is why I still drink scotch, but avoid overindulging.)

I make my Martinis thusly:
Ice cubes in a straight-sided glass. Add a bunch of gin and some vermouth, if I have any.
Don’t shake. Don’t stir. Swirl and drink. Olive on a toothpick if I have any.
Does this uncouth method make me unwelcome at your party? Or could I just sit in the corner and enjoy the ambiance of sophistication?
