Fire that killed a mother and young child. The interview was with the girl (about 14) who was on the school bus with the other daughter in the family when that daughter got a phone call from her father telling her there had been a fire.

Lead story on the news in the six-largest city in the country. This was on what used to be, at least, the top station in this market, which I stopped watching many years ago when their top two stories one night were 1) guy punched his pregnant girlfriend in the stomach and she had a miscarriage and 2) some kid was out riding his tricycle on the sidewalk and someone pushed him over.

ETA: The reason I saw that last night was it’s the ABC affiliate, I’d been watching Dancing with the Stars, and I wasn’t fast enough grabbing the remote.

She was probably abducted by a pedophile.

Our local news the other night. Local big wig looks to have killed his mistress (or maybe just his girlfriend/ex girlfriend).

How did the local tv station lead the story?

“Murder, the worst form of domestic abuse”

Really? I did not know that. Maybe being shoved into a commercial sized sausage grinder alive was in the final running or sumptin.

The sheriff’s department has evidently purchased a tank. Awesome!

The tank’s name is “The Peacemaker”. The news website offers this tantalizing quote: ““They are trained to be observant of what building they are going to look at pulling up,” said SRT instructor Lt. Ricky Ezzell.”

I did a little searching around, and it looks like they’ve had this thing for at least a couple of years. It is a modified M113 armored personnel carrier, which isn’t quite as crazy as a tank, but the 50 caliber belt-fed gun on it is pretty over the top. A story with a pic here.

When I lived in San Diego, the weather announcer once said something along the line of, Same as yesterday, I’ll be back when something changes.

We’ve had many bear stories over the last couple weeks. One was hit by a truck on the freeway, one was captured and hard released, two more were seen several times but never caught and the last was caught and released in the deep forest.

We also have murder and mayhem stories. I prefer the bears, myself.

Interesting - the story on WIS acted like they just got it. According to the news, it was donated. (By whom? The Ladies’ Auxiliary?)

Lott’s okay, though. Seems to pretty much have his shit together, as far as Southern sheriffs go.

Wait, it’s news that there might be a cougar in Athens County, OH? From what I’ve seen of the terrain around there, it’d be bigger news if there weren’t cougars in the woods around there.

They’re talking about suburban housewives who have some mileage on them. They’re all over the place, EXCEPT in the woods.
