Wow my throat has been bothering me the past couple days and I finally looked deep in my mouth in a mirror and saw I had a semi-large tonsil stone in one of the crypts of my left tonsil. I tried removing it with a cotton swab and my tooth brush to no avail. I brush my teeth at least twice a day and use mouthwash but I believe I read mouthwash that contains alcohol can contribute to stones so maybe I was making a good environment for them to form. Anyway this is truly mundane but I finally just pushed with my finger but man oh man I was unprepared for the onslaught of tonsil stones that started pouring out of my tonsil, the closest visually similar thing I can think of is popping a horrible zit. The stones or maybe just the pieces of stone breaking apart just kept coming and coming. It was so truly disgusting but man it felt good to get all that stuff out of there. Just felt like sharing this gross story. ---

You’re right **pool** , that truly is a disgusting/gross story. Please post a new thread in the future after you have passes a handful of 6 mm wide kidney stones. Be sure to record your screaming in agony as the stones pass through your ureter. Post the recording to your Facebook page and then send us the link. 😉 ---

Just one more reason it was sooooooooooooooooo worth it having my tonsils out. I used to get tonsil boulders. ---

I spent days trying to get some of them out using whatever improvised implements that I could find including pens and steak knives. When you manage to get it out, it still isn’t a victory because almost everyone feels compelled to smell it for some odd reason. That is the trap. It smells like shit - literally except in hyper-concentrated form. It is one of the worst things that you have ever smelled yet people still do it to see if it is as bad as the last one - well yes, it does and maybe worse. I finally got my tonsils out as an adult for other reasons but a huge positive is that I don’t ever have to deal with those disgusting things again. ---

I sometimes get those. They smell and taste like concentrated halitosis. Mine usually work their way out on their own, and fall naturally down my throat, but if they wind up in my mouth, I spit them out which is how I know how they smell and taste. ---

Why are they called tonsil _stones_? I think I remember having a few as a kid (I didn’t know what they were at the time), but they were all soft. ---
