I spent so much time complaining about the long winter this year, I swore I wouldn’t complain about the heat or dryness we usually get in June. And I won’t! I loved it! The summer monsoon started this week in a mellow way, afternoon thunderstorms for a couple of days. Just enough to damp down the dust and give the flowers a boost. Wait… this is mini-rants. Damn mosquitoes! I’ve seen a couple! And damn my windowless office that detracts from my summer weather enjoyment. Windowless and hot and noisy when we open the door to the street to try to get some air. Figures I would start getting busy at work just when it’s nicest out. ---

[/QUOTE] You must have picked a very unfortunate camp site…no bugs around where I’m at. Usually Santa Fe is a lot cooler too. But wind…eEE gods! :eek: It’s been an absolutely horrible spring and early summer so far, and it doesn’t look like there is any relief in sight at this point. The monsoons usually start around this time, and they were predicting some rain this weekend and possibly some next week, but I’ve noticed that a lot of the weather sites are backing off of those predictions now…it went from 30-40% chance (which is a good chance around here) to 10% (which means they have no idea what it’s going to do). We NEED those monsoons and I’m starting to wonder if we are going to get any this year. And to top it all off the entire valley here is hazy with the smoke of all the fires, even though they are pretty far away (supposedly there was a small fire set by some of the states myriad idiots in the bosque last night). That’s all we need…if that catches on fire we are going to be in real trouble. Plus it’s one of the most beautiful areas around here. -XT ---

I don’t even remember why I have a profile at Kelloggs, but I do. I seem to recall un-subscribing from their email shit, and when I go to unsubscribe again because I’m still receiving shit, it says I am not subscribed to anything. Then I spend the next 10 minutes playing around with passwords and refreshing browsers and changing my address to one in Beverly Hills because they don’t have an option for Canada and I can’t update my email address to a spam address because I haven’t filled in the state and zip code. Hey Kelloggs email programme! Eat a bag of dicks! ---

More rant than mini, I apologize upfront. My in-laws have now made it abundantly clear their only interest in me is how I relate to their son. He’s deployed right now so I don’t exist when it comes to being invited to family functions; not only have they deliberately left me out of a baby shower and a baptism but decided I shouldn’t even be told about them and have, in fact, lied to me until I let them know I already knew. (Babies for whom MY mother made quilts, btw.) Then they compound it by saying, “We can’t wait to see you…w/ your husband when he gets back!”. Dear in-laws who think I’m either an appendix or a huge inconvenience - why do you think you get cards or gifts or phone calls on special occasions or remembered just because? I REMIND HIM! I alone buy/make/mail the gifts and cards you enjoy. Not anymore I fucking don’t. And if you press me again to fly cross-country to share the few precious days I have w/ him on holidays w/ \*you \* instead I will tell you the whole truth once and for all - your son doesn’t want to see or hear you if it can be avoided. He only spends as much time w/ you as I force him to. You people fucking kill me, when you bitch that I’m \*keeping \*him from you, that I’m an obstacle. You’re not worth shaming w/ the truth, not that you’d ever believe it really was the truth. See how you like it when it’s all up to him. No doubt you’ll blame me then, too. ---

Last weekend and Monday: 40C in Euskadi, including Vitoria-Gasteiz. To give you an idea how unusual this is, I’ve seen snow on the ground near V-G in June and it’s got a local nick of “Siberia-Gasteiz”. Tuesday, max for the town near Bilbao where I was working was 28C, with rains that would make a Miamian rofl but which count as “heavy” for what they’re used to. Wednesday, 18C. This weekend is expected to be in the high 20s and sunny. Spring is over: someone tell the thermometers to stop springing! My boss tried to pull one up on my agent and me 😛 she failed, but I’m pitting her for being an idiot, my genes for apparently giving me a face which makes people think they can bully me (folks, the lastname means Wolf and I do bite when provoked) and inserting some gloating in the spoiler to avoid wall-of-text. [spoiler]I’m self-employed and work as a consultant through an agent. I have also done some translation work (usually no agents involved, as I get these jobs through direct contacts). My current job is supposed to be consulting, but Boss discovered my English beats the pants off hers and has been having me translate a bunch of Important Papers; we’ve talked about the possibility of translating other Important Papers in the fall, from home, and billing directly. On Wednesday my agent asked how long did I think I had left in the job; I said till end of July, which is the information I had; he told me he had some fishes nibbling around the line. On Thursday, Boss told me “you’ll be working through your agent until the 15th; for the other two weeks, you’ll bill us directly.” Not asked, no consideration for issues such as “breach of contract”. Since my agent had to call me at 9am, I waited for it rather than maybe catch him in the car, and I told him about this. He snorted something about karma being a bitch and told me I had a phone interview scheduled for 4pm. Passed the interview with flying colors. Starting a new job in Madrid, for 3 years if I don’t manage to piss anybody off (it’s going to be real strange to be in one place for so long) - on the 18th. What, I’m available, right? That’s what they told my agent, right? So, of course, it’s what he told the fishes… When I told Boss, she said “you can’t tell agent no, of course?” “actually, I can’t tell BigCompany no to a 3-year contract.” Not that I would want to do so for someone who’s tried to get me into a breach of contract 😛 As the person I’m training put it, “you eventually pay for everything. Sometimes, a lot faster than you thought you would”. [/spoiler] ---
