Is it really necessary to post 10 paragraphs for someting that you can sum up in one paragraph? Kudos to those who are very articulate. But, some of these looooong posts are hypnotizing! I’m sure that I’ve skipped over many quality posts because they were to damn long! Sometimes I think people type long posts as an attempt to get attention. Well it backfires! I’m sure many people feel the same way. And, this doesn’t only pertain to straight dope, I see this all over the internet. :mad: \*Mods forgive me if this doesn’t belong in BBQ pit. ---

And, one more thing. Why must certain people refuse to use paragraph breaks? Even this dumb kid from the west knows that paragraphs should be about five sentences, not 55! ---

Some of us just love our words SO much that we want to share them with you, **Themis** , whether you want us to or not. But I agree, no paragraphs are a bitch. I’m a court reporter; we’re taught to try to keep paragraphs short just for readability. And that’s with a LOT of white space on the page. (Okay, it’s a racket, I admit it.) The general and apparently increasing illiteracy level on the net is one issue, however; long posts are another. Sometimes a story CAN’T be told in a few sentences. Some of my favorite posts are the longest ones of all. Perhaps you need to train yourself to more patience in your reading? Reading is a Good Thing! ---

Too long, did not read? If you’re not going to read the package then you have to ask, yes, _ask_ a clerk which condoms are smaller in size. That way there are no suprises when the moment of truth comes (so to speak, I really did not mean to make that terrible pun) and you try to pull out but you’ve shrunk already and the damn thing stays inside and you think “Jeez I wish I had read that package to know what size of condom I was buying; these things are Xtra Xtra Large and I need Teensie Teensie Small”. If you need more information about condoms I have a website and quarterly publication. Thank you, but read next time. ---

I’m extremely guilty of this. I have made a few posts which could be summed up as follows: “I fixed a toilet last night” “I think nonviolent criminals should be able to serve in the military to lessen their sentence” “my dad is going in for surgery and I am scared” “someone who I thought was B and my friend lied about is in shitty ways and so this letter is to her” etc. But I like to think that the effort I put into making those OPs interesting is borne out in … y’know, the OPs. And so far this is one of few complaints I can remember;) But if it’s too long, you know … you can just scan it. Unless that would be too much of a strain or something. ---

Or do you think that any amount of information can be compressed into one paragraph with no loss of meaning? ---

I agree with his point, that _sometimes_ there are _some people_ who are too verbose, to a level of extremeness that is absurd. There’s long, and then there’s way too unnecessarily long. ---
