I doubt it - I don’t recall having much pain after my extraction. They may have prescribed something but I doubt I used more than a couple of doses.
I was just guessing they might have given you something stronger - some folks are relatively generous with the Good Stuff (e.g. when I had my implant placed); I wound up taking a grand total of 3 pills, none of which were strictly necessary. One, while the novocaine was wearing off (I wanted to preempt any pain), and one each of the next two evenings at bedtime (more because it helped with another condition I have, than because I really needed it). I wound up doing as you are, alternating Tylenol and Advil.
Fortunately, the additional medication that I prescribed won’t interact with either the Tylenol or ibuprofen :p.
I’m too scared of ice cream at this point; I did have a very nice lemon pie baby food and then a chocolate pudding.
Keep an ice pack on the area. I never needed more than ibuprofen on the next day.
I’m glad it’s out. And remember, no straws, no sucking until the dentist says it’s OK.
Okay, now I have kind of a stupid question - how long should I keep a gauze pad over the hole in my gums? I don’t mind it, and I’m afraid of getting a dry socket, but when should I stop keeping the gauze pad there?
I’m happy to hear you’re recovering Cat. I don’t really know the answer to how long to keep the gauze pad in, except that if it is stuck in the clot, you don’t want to pull it out right away.
HEY TRIPOLAR,
I SEE YOU LIVE IN RHODE ISLAND. I’M HERE IN SWEET NARRAGANSETT.
I’M HAVING A MAJOR CRISIS IN 8 TEETH.
AND TWO UPPER SMALLER MOLARS THAT ARE BROKEN OFF ( #'s 4 and 13 ).
They’re infected and hurt when I push on them… Both broken down to the gumline- one, anyway and I’m suffering greatly. Just began antibiotics, 2nd round.Pain yesterday felt like somebody stuck a dagger in my upper tooth. The infection is in my sinuses now.
Can you tell me the name of your great dentist here? I need advanced dentistry - someone wise kind and skillful who can also do root canals and/or extraction. Is he an oral surgeon?
Really appreciate this discussion…
I already lost two lower left molars and I’m scared.
When I get scared I stick my head in the sand. Then, things only get worse.
Tooth trouble is hell on Earth. My compassion to you all.
Anyway, hope you see this.
Thanks ;-))
