Can’t come up with a definitive top ten right now, but Minor Threat’s “Filler” is almost certainly #1.

Hmm… I’d take White Riot over Complete Control. In fact, I’d take several others over Complete Control, as good as it is.

Perhaps you all can help me find the thrashiest song I have ever heard. Ridiculously fast, primitive guitars. Dates from about 1978. In French, perhaps by a French-Canadian group.

Any guesses?

Lots of good choices so far, but I’d have to add my #1 favorite punk song, “Petroleum Distillation” by Fifteen, “Sound System” by Operation Ivy, and almost anything by the great Social Distortion… perhaps “Story Of My Life.”

This is a wild stab in the dark but maybe **Voivod**? They were an incredibly speedy French-Canadian Thrash Metal group. I don’t think they started recording until the early '80s, though. I haven’t actually listened to any of their music for about 20 years so I may be a bit off in my recollections.

_Blitzkreig Bop_ - The Ramones
_Los Angeles_ - X
\*See You In The Boneyard \* - The Flesheaters
\*The Next Big Thing \* - The Dictators
\*Marquee Moon \* - Television
\*Love Comes In Spurts \* - Richard Hell and the Voidoids
\*Heart of Darkness \* - Pere Ubu
_The Modern Wor_ld - The Jam
\*Coup D’Etat \* - The Circle Jerks
\*Pretty Vacant \* - The Sex Pistols

Not so much a definitive top 10 for me just the first 10 I could think of that I would call essential punk songs.

I’d put “Mommy’s Little Monster” way ahead of “Story of my Life” for punk songs. We’re also missing the Dead Kennedys’ “Holiday in Cambodia,” the Misfits “Die Die My Darling,” and Black Flag’s “TV Party.”

Other’s may not agree, but Rhino’s _'No Thanks! The ’70s Punk Rebellion_’ looks good. I don’t have it, but assume it’s a collection of their out of print D.I.Y punk series compilations. If it’s $65 price tag isn’t in your budget, the seperate CDs are available on [half.com](http://half.com) [Rhino D.I.Y Punk from the UK, NYC, Boston & LA discs](http://search.half.ebay.com/rhino-d-i-y_W0QQqueryZrhinoQ20dQ2eiQ2eyQQmZmusic)

Hmm, after careful deliberation & reflection, starting with #1 (the best)

#1: **The Fall** - Rowche Rumble _(Stunned the Fall haven’t gotten a mention yet)_
#2: **The Damned** - New Rose _(Seconded)_
#3: **Buzzcocks** - Orgasm Addict _(Thirded)_
#4: \*\*The Jam \*\* - The Modern World _(Seconded)_
#5: **DKs** - Too Drunk To Fuck _(Better than CA Uber Alles & Holiday in Cambodia)_
#6: **X** - Los Angeles _(Seconded)_
#7: **MC5** - Kick Out The Jams _(Proto-punk’s been mentioned by a few already - Fuck Hudsons!)_
#8: **D O A** - Disco Sucks _(In 1979, alot more than just disco sucked)_
#9: **Ramones** - Rockaway Beach _(Had to include at least 1 NYC Band)_
10: **Reagan Youth** - Jesus Was A Communist
