Reading this thread I almost said “same here” to half of the posts, then I’d read a post that usurped the previous one… This is a very difficult question! ---

Sympathy for the Devil Paint it Black Miss You Those are close to the _only_ songs by the Stones I like, although I wouldn’t skip or change the channel if Gimme Shelter came on. ---

Sway Torn and Frayed Gimme Shelter Hard, hard choices, those. The best rock band that ever was, despite being musically irrelevant for 40 years. ---

1. Dandelion (somehow I knew I would be the first to mention this one. I have an irrational affection for 1967 British psychedelia.) 2. Jumpin’ Jack Flash. (Simply one of the best classic rockers ever, up there with the Who’s “Happy Jack” and the Kinks’ “Victoria.”) 3. She’s So Cold (it came out just before I left for college, so it’s inextricably connected with being 17-18 and all the delightful things about that age.) ---

Moonlight Mile Beast of Burden Ruby Tuesday I love many of the rockers, but it’s interesting that my top 3 turn out to be mellow numbers. Even my “honorable mention” – the live (_Ya Yas_) version of Love in Vain – is mellow. Other faves include She Smiled Sweetly, Child of the Moon, Gimme Shelter, and Gotta Get Away. ETA: Dropo, the live version of Stray Cat Blues was what first turned me on to the Stones, at age nine! ---

Gimme Shelter for the mix of vocals I have heard that this is Mick Jagger’s favorite. Paint It Black Brown Sugar ---

_Gimme Shelter Wild Horses Moonlight Mile_ _Dead Flowers_ and _Out of Time_ could make the cut but I’ll put The New Riders of the Purple Sage and The Ramones versions, respectively, on another list. (_Sticky Fingers_ would be such phenomenal album if it wasn’t for that _Brown-Sugar_-beginning-of-the-decline song.) ---
