Thought I’d go ahead and start a thread in case anyone needs a reminder that the new season of Top Chef starts at 9/8c tonight. So, D.C. Any thoughts on how the location will affect the show? Politicians as guest judges? Presidential-themed challenges? ---

I totally forgot about this. Probably the best news is that Toby is out and **Eric Ripert** is in. Hopefully they bring back Anthony Bourdain as a guest judge so we can get those two on the same episode. ---

Yeah, he seemed like a good guy, but I’m kinda glad he went first because I would have spent every episode he’s in worrying about strands of his crazy nasty-looking hair falling in the food. Padma had a baby not along ago, right? I must say motherhood suits her, she looks more… voluptuous than I remember. 🙂 ---

Cool to see this around my town, but the first few episodes of this (or any similar) show are always better in reruns. You don’t know anything about the contestants and a lot of them will be gone by the time the competition really gets rolling. It’s always funny to me that they don’t pare down the opening titles as the season goes on. By the last couple of episodes I’ll be watching the opening and wondering “Who the hell are **those** people?” because they got eliminated in the first few shows. ---

Well, I for one am incredibly glad that [spoiler]John got the boot, if for no other reason than that I wouldn’t continue to live in mortal fear that that horrible ratty hair would fall into one of his entrees eventually. Also, he probably sets the record for Shortest Reality Journal Ever. And I don’t think Angelo is nearly as cocky as Kenny. Heck, at least Angelo won (twice)![/spoiler] ---

[shallow] Angelo is really hot. [/shallow] The previews included appearances by Joe Scarborough, Anthony Bourdain, the White House chef, and Nancy Pelosi. I didn’t watch last season because I got bored, but this season may have potential. ---

When we were predicting who would go, I was sure it would be grainy fat free pate chef. My husband said it would be John. I argued that they needed to keep Crazy Eyes 2.0 for at least a few more weeks. I did also express how scheeved out I’d be if I glanced into a restaurant kitchen and saw that hair. I know it’s possible that it’s clean but it sure doesn’t look it. ---

Angelo is just as dickish as Mike I from last season, but seems to have the chops to back it up. Which is always fun. Hard to keep everyone else straight yet. Surprisingly, we do not yet have a full and comprehensive count of gay/lesbian cheftestants, which always seems like a Top Chef tradition. ---

We never once saw Angelo trash-talk any of his fellow contestants in the kitchen area, the house, or any other public area last night. He only did so in the interview–and even then, he would constantly go on about how good he was, not how terrible so-and-so was. That might change, of course (and he was a pretty gratuitous name-dropper during the meet-n-greet early one), but Mike couldn’t open his trap without talking about how pisspoor his fellow competitors were. Re: Angelo (who is quite hot, I must add). Does anyone else fail to see the point of having a Top Chef competitor who already has a Michelin star? I mean, why bother? What is there to prove by winning Top Chef that he hasn’t already proven by earning the Michelin star? I’m a little annoyed that he’s a contestant because now the show just seems like an excuse to humiliate a bunch of other chefs while Angelo just walks away with the prize.
