Lots of beautiful outdoor scenery in this weeks episode. I envied the chefs opportunity to see that gorgeous country by helicopter. The dog sled ride was something very few people ever get a chance to experience.
I did wonder if Josh’s baby was born with a giant mustache. Congrats to the proud parents. I can see Josh mixing bacon and milk in a blender for homemade baby formula.
I’m relieved that Josh got eliminated in this episode. He seems like a nice guy. But he cooked too many breakfast dishes and his reliance on pork seemed so one note.
Hugh’s blog over on Top Chef seemed pretty snarky of Josh. I don’t think Hugh was that impressed with Josh’s food.
Brooke is really on a roll I hope the long break before the finale doesn’t throw her game off. I’d say she’s got a pretty good shot at beating Sheldon. I’m not sure if she can get past Kristen. That’s assuming Kristen wins LCK. We won’t know the LCK winner until next week.
Colicchio’s blog is up. Once again what was edited to look like a tough decision really wasn’t. Sheldon’s broth was apparently only “slightly overseasoned”, while Josh’s foie gras torchon was “outright cooked improperly”.
Not a comment on the most recent episode (havn’t seen it yet) but the previous two weeks - is the fix in for Sheldon and his Meg Griffin hat? Maybe the episode with Stephan was close but it seemed that the decision was made based on the season rather than the episode which Tom swears they never do.
Then the salmon/sourdough challenge. The both kind of bombed the salmon but Lizzie aced the sourdough and Sheldon couldn’t do that right. They somehow justify it in that Lizzie just made a sandwich but Sheldon only made a soup AND it wasn’t a soup/sandwich challenge i.e. while Lizzie was 1 out of 2 in meeting the challenge Sheldon was ZERO out of 2 but guess who goes home.
I don’t mean to keep being the defender of the judges, but to me they come across as very sincere in their claim that they’re picking the best dish. And after all, we don’t get to taste the food.
Anyway, here’s what they had to say about Sheldon’s hanging on.
I don’t see there being a fix for Sheldon, even just from the episode. Sheldon made overly salty broth. Josh decided he could thumb his nose at the laws of physics and that the judges wouldn’t notice when the results landed in front of them. I know which one I’d boot.
I don’t know… I’m kind of glad the winner of the Save-a-Chef vote still has to win in Last Chance Kitchen to make the finale. They ought to have to earn it at least a little bit.
From the previews, it seems as if there will be a showdown between Sheldon & Brooke and the winner from those two finalists will go on to face the winner of LCK for the top prize. If this is really the way it’s going to work, I’m not sure how I feel about it.
Hmm, my impression was it’s Sheldon vs. Brooke vs. LCK winner in part 1 of the finale. And then the last two standing out of those three compete in part 2.
The previews just only showed Sheldon and Brooke because they don’t want to spoil who won LCK (which will be revealed during the episode).
Did you watch the last LCK? That’s exactly what’s happening, it seems. The Save-a-Chef winner competed against the two LCK contestants in a 3-way battle to get into the finale. I’m just not sure what happens next.
I just rewatched and I’m sure you’re right. I was confused by the bit at the very end of the promo where it shows Brooke & Sheldon and Padma says “For one of you the road to the finale ends here.” But now it’s obvious to me that it’s just part 1 of the finale.
I hope the chefs will have enough time to cook a great meal in the live final. Usually the final challenge is to cook “the best meal of your career”. Usually they have several hours.
I guess if all the prep is done they could still come out and cook a great meal live.
To be clear, the finale isn’t actually live, it’s “in front of a live audience”, right? Otherwise, they wouldn’t have been able to show us clips at the end of the last episode.
