Mentioned today, Vingegaard fractured a collarbone. This info was probably available earlier but it was the first I heard how bad his injury was. He had surgery in Denmark, apparently it went well.

Yeah, it was reported early that he broke a collarbone, just like Florian Lipowitz did when he crashed in the TT.

Wow, 23 km to the finish, there’a a leading group of Pog, Remco, Mads and Mathieu! All former world champions and absolute heavyweights. I’m hoping for a great finish!
ETA: ah, the peloton caught them, but I’m sure they all will attack again on the last climb to Montmartre.
ETA: now van der Poel and Pog escaping on the last climb!

That was like a cross country skiing finish — collapsing due to exhaustion.
I didn’t catch who, but one competitor carried his bike (looked like chain came off)

Yes, van der Poel was totally zapped out for a few minutes after the finish. And yes, there was a crash just behind the first incoming riders at the finish line, and one rider crossed the line with his bike on his shoulder.

That Montmartre loop really makes the last stage less of a snooze-fest than the old circuit finish, where barring the presence of Vinokourov you only needed to watch the last 500m of the stage.

NBC broadcast a 2 hour chunk – they showed the stage win and podium ceremonies, but not the Green, White, or KOM ones. Curiious if the ~25 min highlight reel will show those.

Yes, the 25 min highlight reel showed all the jersey winners.
Carapaz, in addition winning the polka-dot/KOM Jersey, wins most aggressive.
Quinn Simmons wins over all “best teammate”
Seixas, at 19 youngest rider in quite a while ends up in 4th place, and second by ~2 min for White (youth)

S. Kuss 13th place (oh so close to a stage win)

Since we don’t have a general cycling thread, Tadej Pogačar had to withdraw from the Vuelta a Espana after a nasty crash with many injuries.

I saw the crash live on TV, and it was a horrible and strange one. At first I thought “WTF is he doing?” when he suddenly swerved to the right and into other riders, causing the fall, but later it was speculated that he got out of balance by a stone on the road. Pogacar isn’t known for crashing lightly, but these are things that just happen in cycling with no one to blame. He looked terrible, I immediately knew that this was the end of the race for him.
