Do other people want to meet with The Stainless Steel Rat (let’s say for dinner on Saturday the 22nd of April) at some convenient place (let’s say at some place near the Mall)? If that time and place isn’t convenient, what time and place is?
Red line doesn’t go through there. But you can transfer at Metro Center.
I’ll be a firm maybe for such a get together. Please let me know if a time and location is set!
Well, see, there’s going to be this march on the 22nd - Something about Science, and thumbing our noses at the President, or some-such. So I expect I’ll be in the vicinity of the Mall that day, yeah.
If you are going to be there only the latter part of Friday, and Saturday, that’s Shabbes, so the Holocaust museum may be closed. Maybe they have goyim who keep it open for goyim, but my experience of Holocaust and Jewish history museums is that they are closed on Shabbes. I would call them first. If you have to eliminate this, it’s a shame, but as others have said, you will probably have to eliminate something.
I lived in DC, and it has been 20 years, but I don’t imagine parking has gotten better. It was pretty much impossible for tourists to park in the touristy areas. Take the metro. You will be able to walk or take the bus everywhere else. The bus system is excellent in DC. Any place the metro doesn’t get you, the bus will.
BTW, if you go to Embassy Row, there are dozens of really authentic (so I heard from foreign students at my university) ethnic restaurants of all kinds.
Holicaust Museum hours —
The Museum is open every day except Yom Kippur, September 30, 2017, and Christmas Day, December 25.

The Museum and its exhibitions are open from 10 a.m. to 5:20 p.m.
Spring Extended Hours: From March 27 through June 16, 2017, the Museum is open from 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
Street parking is as bad as it ever was, if not worse, but there are quite a lot of public garages peppered liberally across the city. It’s certainly not cheap; they can cost you up to $20-30 for just a few hours and many close at afternoon rush hour or early evening, but if you’re willing to pay it you can park just about anywhere. Not worth it for most locals but if I were a tourist on vacation, I might consider splurging.
And if you’re staying in Silver Spring, Georgia Ave (the main road through downtown SS) is a straight shot downtown (it becomes 7th St NW at Florida Ave). It and 16th St NW go right down the center of the city, with 16th ending at Lafayette Square across from the White House and 7th goes right past the National Gallery of Art and between the Air & Space Museum and the Hirshhorn, ending a few blocks further at the wharf.
But as has been mentioned repeatedly above, I would strongly discourage you from driving around inside DC. Traffic is horrific almost 24-7, the roads can be confusing as shit if you’re not familiar with them, and it’s going to either cost you an arm and a leg to park in a garage, or you will waste at least half the day finding street parking, feeding meters, and moving your car from spot to spot. And DC meter maids love to fuck with you, especially when they see non-local plates or rental cars.
