I guess you can come to expect these days but again the whole point of having a toy made out of scraps by a child and what it means to them was totally lost on the Disney marketing/merchandising money grabbing monsters.
Encourage your kid to get creative and build their own Forky toy? Nah, just buy them a pre-fabricated Forky https://www.target.com/p/disney-pixar-toy-story-4-interactive-forky-figure/-/A-75565829 for $60 at Target. Fake spork, fake pipe cleaner, fake popsicle stick, etc.
Saw it on the weekend. Was quite surprised by how empty the theater was but a lot of people were out of town for the long weekend. I couldn’t imagine how any sequel could top TS 2 & 3 but it would have been great if it had. Still, the kids and me really enjoyed it and the youngest didn’t remember all to well seeing the 3rd one in the theater so if nothing else, it was great to see her really get into this one knowing it will have a more lasting effect. It wouldn’t bother me at all if they cranked out some more just for the theater experience with the kids and future grand-kids but if it ends with this one, that’s fine to.
Saw it a couple of days ago. I don’t think it’s as good as the first three…but it’s still really good. I’m happy with it as an end to the series (and I really hope it is the end).
I totally didn’t see Woody’s departure coming, but it seems to me that it leaves him in an interesting position. He’s no longer tied to a single child, so you can tell yourself that from now on, he could show up anywhere, helping toys find kids (and kids find toys). In a weird kind of way, it’s almost like turning him into a toy deity.
We saw it dubbed in Greek with our 8-year-old — none of us speak Greek, but we’re on vacation in Greece — and he (and we) still really enjoyed it! (Our Greek friend did whisper a few key translations to us during the course of the film).
“Skoupedia!” is our new catch-word. (Of course, it means “trash”).
Saw it today with my family.
I think it was OK, but ultimately comes off as an unnecessary sequel. They tried very hard to put something good together, but I felt like it failed in bringing anything necessary to the series. I still think Toy Story 3 ended things very nicely and would be a great ending to the series. This felt like a big AND added after the end of the series.
I appreciate the effort, but will take away very few fond memories from this one. Still better than most of the movies that will come out this year, just nothing too hugely successful on its own.
Just saw this in the cheap theater with my nine-year-old daughter. It was interesting to see how both the computer graphics and the gender politics have evolved over the quarter century since the first movie. Interestingly, I found this kickass incarnation of Bo Peep very compelling and magnetic (in the previous movies she just seemed like a boring toy). Was she voiced by the same actor as in the past?
I thought it was pretty decent although I would rank it third out of the four above only the second film. It’s 10th out of the 17(!) Pixar films I have seen.
I agree with earlier comments about how the “villain” wasn’t really evil, but desperate and sad. Gave the character some real depth.
Also, and dog help me, Christina Hendricks may have the sexiest voice of all time, even if it does occasionally emanate from a doll.
Welp, they found him.
