Bunny was not saying Canada was like the US. I agree with this great man, who said:

> [@Dr\_Paprika](#):
>
> Bunny was listing all of the countries in North and South America in order from southern to northern. The idea that “The Americas” include all these countries is a bone of contention one often hears if you travel to them. Similar themes one might hear include that all of these countries matter (even if the US rarely thinks of them), and that they are distinct and quite different from another even if some view them as “all the same” or very similar.
>
> Bunny was not remotely saying Canada was like the US. Almost the opposite - that each of these places is different with a common humanity and individual charms, and are not merely an America Light. In fact, one suspects many Canadians would agree with this idea. Of course, Canada and the US have historically had many similarities too.

Right, because making them a state would mean giving them some say in how things are run. For Venezuela, we’re just trying to make them a puppet territory. Which is also what we’re threatening to do to Panama and Greenland (but haven’t yet actually done) Trump recognizes Venezuela’s (and Panama’s and Greenland’s) sovereignty much, much less than Canada’s.

What military junta?
His legitimacy as a leader was highly discutible but, legitimate or not, he was the leader of the country.

I have been told by a Canadian that there is a strong cultural identity in Canada of being “not American.” That the similar cultures have resulted in Canadians largely playing up their differences. There is a particular strand in politics of playing up how Canada is not as right wing as the US.

And this has of course gotten so much more predominant with Trump, even before he started going after the country. I am under the impression that there was an election not long ago where the other candidate lost in large part to being seen as too cozy with Trump.

But even before all that, the attitude towards the label “American” has always been different between Canada and Latin America. I can see how his statement, regardless of intent, hit Canadians the wrong way at one of the worst times.

I don’t think it has anything to do with who has it worse or whose sovereignty is more in jeopardy. It’s a cultural difference.

Kid’s nationwide tour is seriously suffering because supporting acts are dropping out. Some stops have already been canceled.

Just one so far. But that’s just more opportunity!

He’s coming to my neighborhood here in MA…the outfield seats of the amphitheater are about half full so far, but the premium seats are mostly empty.

If ticket sales began more than a couple weeks before super bowl day, a bunch of those already-bought tickets wouldn’t be bought today.

IME refunds aren’t a thing for event tickets.

It’ll be fun to see if the secondary market crashes from oversupply. Lotta scalpers may find themselves holding unsaleable inventory.

Darn.

From the article

> Ticketholders for the scrapped Anderson shows have been given options. They can either move their tickets to a different location and claim a $50 merchandise credit or seek a complete refund through email.

I’ve been to thousands of concerts, know lots of musicians and promoters and have volunteered for festivals. This is not necessarily true. If an act drops out, it’s very common for refunds to be offered. Depending on the circumstances, they may have to offer a refund contractually. I’m oversimplifying for brevity but there are many reasons a refund will be an option for buyers.

Correct. If **you** can’t attend an event, forget it. If an event gets rescheduled, or dramatically changed (such as one or more acts not being able to perform though the event is still happening) there are often options for you. If it’s cancelled completely they are legally obligated to offer a refund since they can’t deliver what you paid for.

Another interesting thing is “when is a band no longer a band?” You’ll often see the name of an act awkwardly announced. Like it will be The Jones Band featuring BIll Green and Lisa Hacker. If Bill or Lisa get ill or something and are replaced it’s no longer The Jones Band. You can ask for a refund even if the show goes on with someone else. If the touring keyboard player drops out even if they’ve been in the band for years, it’s still The Jones Band.

Big festivals with a couple dozen acts will have headliners, secondary acts and smaller. They will be listed in smaller and smaller fonts on the announcement. A small font band playing the third stage on Sunday morning can quit with no penalty even if that’s the main reason you’re going. Bigger acts are different.

What they can’t do is get the money back for the travel costs, and they can’t call your boss up and say “Billy Bob needs to have his paid and arranged vacation cancelled without penalty, o.k.?” Even a ticket refund is a loss in far too many cases.

Effectively 100% of them knew they were seeing Kid Rock because it’s literally his festival tour and he is the headliner. It’s called “Kid Rock @ Rock the Country” and has several stops. Kind of unmistakable.

There are for sure other expenses for destination events or really any other vacation if something happens like the cruise ship has a problem or a major weather event hits. These things are relatively rare but vacation insurance is available and the event being canceled would trigger a payout. This doesn’t help if you are screwed at work. Also vacation insurance is a total ripoff but we are getting way off topic.

There is hypothetically the low-information type of person who bought a ticket because they loved his music, but then realized he’s an asshole when the SB halftime show became news, and now regrets that ticket purchase.

This has two flaws: low-information people are more likely to be Trump supporters anyway, and this postulates someone who loves Kid Rock’s music.

Kid Rock was never scheduled to appear at all in the 2026 Anderson event.

I have never heard of a refund coming because they _added_ someone. 🙂 I have heard of people being booted off a bill because of political pressure (right or left depending). Recently a well loved ostensibly liberal performer (Michael Franti) had his whole tour as well as his big concert cruise canceled and refunds issued even though some of the events were sold out. A major #metoo issue came out and the fairly well kept secret that he was a major creep became well known. Read about it if you have the stomach for it.

Thanks for the education.

I’d foolishly assumed the tour was effectively “Kid Rock plus some no-name opening band”. Such that swapping in a replacement no-name band when the first one got cold feet didn’t arise to a need to cancel the tour nor offer widespread refunds. I’m a dummy.
