Trade has halted -or- Trump can celebrate when the Market goes over 24,000

Up, Down, Up, Down: Woo hoo in Simlish.

Thankfully, I won’t be 65 for another 15 years so I believe I can ride this one out and enjoy the next upswing. If I get to 60-ish and am reasonably pleased with my retirement account, I’m locking that shit down in the safest, least rewarding fashion I can.

“-ish”

“reasonably pleased”

Yeah, that’s what they all say. But if it’s still going up everyone wants to ride the wave just…a…little…bit…longer. And then…

Damn, my daughter is going to college in the fall of '21. Her fund has taken a bit hit. I thought at Christmas time about changing it over to safer stuff. I don’t want to panic sell, but…I’m fucking panicking. I’ll just leave it there and have a daily stroke…

ETA: The world needs ditch diggers too, girl.

I mean, that’s exactly what they recommend you do. When your retirement horizon is <5 years away you’re supposed to move most of your funds into bonds and low-risk, low-interest investments

D’OH!

No need to go crazy, though. Even after you retire, you won’t need most of that money for 10, 15, 20 years or more.

Your ideas about my life expectancy please and trouble me.

Mr. bobot, the good news is, you’re going to live another 20 years; The bad news is, this is the best you’re ever going to feel.

The Dow is hovering around 24,000 again. Looks like another winner today.

ETA - just dropped below

And we’re plummeting again.

Yep, hovering at or below Monday’s low.

My kids’ 529 plans automatically switch to more conservative investments as they get older. Not much damage done.

After Trump’s speech tonight, the Dow futures dropped another 770 points.

The headlines a couple hours later, are:
Dow futures plunge more than 1,100 points as Trump speech disappoints investors

Stock market news live: Dow drops 1,400 points, ending in bear market
and also:
Boeing Crashes: $43 Billion in Share Buybacks Turn into Existential Threat

Boeing halts hiring, limits overtime to preserve cash, stock falls most since 1974
Is Boeing too big to fail? Is the Dow?

It starts…And it stops. Down by 1696. Will it finish the week above 20,000?

I’ve seen a few headlines that blame Trump’s “address” to the nation for the massive drop today. For a guy that’s used the strength of the stock market to brag how great he’s been for the economy, he has to be going ape shit this morning. Maybe today is the day he finally regrets not eating more vegetables and not focusing so much on his overall heart health.

Oh, restarted at over 2000 down. Will it finish the DAY above 20k?

We’re back to the DJIA of Sep 2017 now.

Our 401(k) is back to where it was a little over a year ago. An entire year’s growth (including contributions) is gone. Lost roughly 14% just in the last two weeks.
