Traffic Enforcement

Plus, there seems to be a class of drivers who think that if you wave or honk while doing something stupid, it makes it okay to do something stupid. I’ve seen that a lot more lately.

I’m bulling my way into going first, and I’m polite doing it. Go me! I am the BEST!!!

Yup. Increasingly common.

FTR: I’m sure I’m guilty of this now and again. Especially the conceit that if you give me 3 seconds right now, very shortly thereafter I’ll be a mile in front of you going away and you’ll make up that 3 seconds easily without my ongoing interference with your progress.

Local communities are not immune from the tight labor markets. Municipalities have seen drastic reduction in workforce, whether its the DMV, courts, or the police force. As such there are about 5% fewer sworn officers today in the US than there were at the beginning of 2020. Fewer patrolmen, fewer detectives, etc. With less patrol and traffic enforcement, drivers will be more aggressive.

No… this guy was coming perpendicular to the ambulance’s direction of travel.

Same in Colorado.

Then you are correct, he was a dick.

A couple nights ago, I pulled out into traffic behind a marked Chicago Police squad car. As we drove, a cluster of motorcycles approached in the oncoming. They were goofing off, swerving, wheelies, etc, but fairly low speed and not really a danger to others but pretty flagrant. The brake lights on the cop car briefly flashed to acknowledge visual on the scofflaws and wheelies quickly touched back down. It would have been an easy pop for the cops but everyone drove on.
