I was thinking the same thing. How do you lose/hide a train?
In an unused tunnel that was sealed up. Apparently there a many in that region.
It makes me thing that they could believe they figured out the location. Which doesn’t mean much.
They presumably don’t its location for sure. Otherwise, they could have provided a picture, or sent some item taken from the train, or just helped themselves.
My guess is that they had some mostly unfounded idea about its whereabouts, and are unwilling to search for it until they’re sure they will get something out of it. If they’re guaranteed a share, they will open some sealed nazi tunnel somewhere, realize there’s no train to be found, and it will be the end of the story.
Its possible; I do remember watching the whole Capone’s Secret Stash thing on TV. But I’m betting there is something - at least a train or a major part of the cars thereof. Beyond that I’ll be curious to see. One thing I do know is you aren’t going to get away with that level of excavation and not get noticed. I wonder if they did do enough to get a small camera/snake through though.
As for the 10% I think its reasonable. Most jurisdictions I know of have some provision if I’m turning in a tax cheat, a stash of ill gotten gains, or find some buried treasure. OK - this is Europe and our mileage may vary. But it still strikes me as fair for doing the research and having some luck.
Update
polish officials have said a train has been found , as per the two claimants .

If it had been in an overground tunnel, it would surely have been found well before now.
Et al?
Train reported found in Poland with WW2 era Gold and others?
Where are the grammar nazis when you need them!? Next thing you know, we’re going to let some honeyed grammar go missing for 70 years, just to wind up in New Jersey on a DVD.
Zero content, strangely well-lit and edited sequence that shows… a train in a tunnel. Nary a Nazi or WWII marking to be seen; open cars full of rocks or rubble.
IF it’s authentic and not some kind of hoax, it’s an old mine train.
There isn’t anything new in that story; things are worded to sound like there is new info, but there isn’t.
This time , it had appeared to be the city officials stating that officially something had been found. A quick guess, would be that you would want cops at the very least in the area, and then troops just to secure the area from looters. Then what ever is on the train at this time, to be inventoried and assayed. If thats not happening, then nothing has been found.
But I want to keep the thread alive until something definite comes up, one way or the other.

Or someone just picked a stock photo of a train in a tunnel, cause his boss wanted something dammit.

A few more crumbs of information here (The Telegraph).
The Polish Deputy Culture Minister says ground-penetrating radar images appear to show a 100m long train equipped with gun turrets. So it does appear that a WWII-era armoured train has been found, rather than a train related to the mining industry or similar usage.
The vagueness is still troubling. I understand that they want to keep the location secret and secure until adequate provisions have been made for a secure entrance to the chamber, especially as the reports are that the train was mined.
But I am still smelling a lot of delusion and deception here. The pieces just don’t quite seem to come together. I wonder who’s fooling who…
Seems to be a real train, military in origin. The idea it’s full of “Nazi gold” is purely a guess.
According to what, besides second- and third-hand claims?
Speaking at a press briefing in the capital Warsaw this afternoon, Piotr Zuchowski, Poland’s National Heritage and Conservation Officer, said: ‘Information about where this train is and what its contents are were revealed on the deathbed of a person who had knowledge of the secret of this train.’
He added that Polish authorities had now seen evidence of the train’s existence in a picture taken using a ground-penetrating radar.
He said the image - albeit blurred - showed the shape of a train platform and cannons.
Mr Zuchowski said the find was ‘unprecedented’, adding: 'We do not know what is inside the train.
'Probably military equipment but also possibly jewellery, works of art and archive documents.
‘Armoured trains from this period were used to carry extremely valuable items and this is an armoured train, it is a big clue.’
He said authorities were now ‘99 percent sure the train exists’

I saw a tweet from a Polish local saying dozens of treasure hunters had descended on the site and another saying that the military had cordoned the area off. So I presume that the authorities don’t want to give away the exact location to reduce the chances of unauthorized people finding a way into the tunnel (if it’s not caved in) and making off with any valuables or getting blown up by mines or similar.
As to what’s in the train, I think there’s a high chance it could have valuable stuff in. Presumably the train was intentionally hidden, perhaps dynamiting the entrance. I’d find it unlikely that a tunnel capable of admitting a train would be lost over time due to the entrance getting covered in undergrowth, especially in Europe and when the story of a hidden gold train in the area appears to have been known for a long time.
So why go to the effort of hiding a train? It doesn’t make a whole lot of sense to do so if it’s empty or full of military hardware. It makes more sense if its got a lot of valuable stuff that the Germans didn’t want to lose to the approaching Russians. Maybe it was organized top-down by German authorities, or maybe it was done bottom-up by a small group of individuals taking an opportunity in the chaos of the German wartime collapse to preserve its contents for possible reclamation by the Fatherland at a future time - or for simple personal gain.
Since the information is coming from government officials, I don’t see any reason to doubt the information that’s been released.
All this seems plausible to me, blow up the tunnel entrance and exit and pull up the outside tracks, a few years later with weeds and trees growing you would never know any tracks were there.
Yeah, I know, DrDeth, I read all that, too. It’s all hearsay. So where’s a clip from the GPR, for example?
WAM, just because the government has been roped into the situation doesn’t necessarily give their statements credence.
cz, no one is saying that the general idea isn’t plausible - other “treasure trains” were found in teh years right after the war. But I am still suspicious of the missing pieces of this story. Maybe Poland is simply handling it ineptly on the public front while trying to keep treasure hunters from excavating half the county and possibly getting killed.
I just maintain a certain skepticism about the hand-waving, woo-ey veneer.
