Keep in mind that as an American when he wrote the song, he was not allowed to visit Cuba, so there may be a political dig there when he says he can’t go. ---

someone above has almost translated it. STILLS IS ORIGINALLY FROM A CARIBEAN ISLAND…I THINK CURASOU/ HE IS SINGING IN A PIGEON LANGUAGE MUCH LIKE CREOLE WHICH IS SPANISH-BASED.I am from Spain and I would translate it slightly differently. As I used to tell students whenever I happened to be subbing for a Spanish class, “Hablo Espanol del Camino Sesame”. I can fake it pretty well from my five years of Latin (which I didn’t flunk), and osmosis of a few words here and there, but I’ve never had any formal Spanish education at all. Everyone on this board can read and write English. Some of us know other languages, and Spanish is probably pretty high up on the list of other languages Dopers know, but a lot of us can’t speak it, nor any other non-English language. ---
