# Trapped in the Closet: self-MST3Ked

Has anyone watched the commentary “remix” on the \*Trapped in the Closet \*DVD?

It’s R.Kelly, sitting in a big armchair, facing 3/4 towards a perspective-distorted “screen” whereon is “projected” _Trapped in the Closet_. Kelly, in between drags on a stogie that’s like a baby’s arm, provides us with commentary over his left shoulder. And the commentary–he’s not talking about filming this scene, or admitting it’s all a Baron-Cohen style hoax–he’s just _telling us what’s going on on the screen_. Like one of those really annoying people who always seem to sit near me in the theaters, only it’s in first person–_“See, here I’m in the closet . . .”_

Occasionally, there’s a little bit of actually commentary, but it’s always even funnier: _“Some people don’t notice it, but I’m rhyming all the way through this. . . .”_ Or, when he talks like he invented the idea of “story”: \*"It’s like a game, only it’s real life \*[sic!!!], _see cuz you’re trying to figure out what happens next . . ."_ or _“See, the cliffhanger here, is that there is no cliffhanger!”_

I urge everyone, and everyone you know, to rent it/buy it and play the commentary track. Trust me, you’ll be glad you did.

Isn’t the song _already_ basically a lengthy commentary explaining everything that happens in excruciating detail? I actually really enjoy the video, but I also recognize that it’s essentially an unintentional parody of itself.

Me, I much prefer Weird Al’s version, “Trapped in the Drive-Thru.” 🙂
