Travelling "overseas"

I propose the following definition:

Before air travel existed, you would have taken a boat to get there.

I propose we follow the definition given here where it mentions abroad. So, even Canada is overseas for citizens of the United States of America.

How would that be, given that all the definitions specifically mention travelling over an actual sea to get there?
If you use that definition, you’d tell someone in Switzerland that they’re ‘overseas’ from France? I think they’d throw some edelweiss at you or something.

I propose the following definition for overseas:

A different country that is not connected by an existing, natural, permanent land bridge. So North America to South America is overseas. Travel to any foreign island - overseas, etc.

Like from Costa Rica to Colombia.

Hmm… what about France to Tunis or Algiers? Sure, you could walk there (and be sure to drop by when you go through Tel-Aviv! :D) – but, arguably, very few people will take the land route.

Count me in. That has been the trip of my dreams for a long time : going from France to Morroco following the mediterranean coast (not walking, though).

And actually, Tel Aviv is the difficult part due to the visa issues and the Lebanese border. I suspect a detour via Cyprus and “losing” a passport would be required.
