Travels in Iceland, anyone?

Mjollnir:

I’ll see what I can find, and if the cost isn’t too great you may consider it a gift. Although if its weight is anything close to the original I’m not lugging it around Iceland and London.

An Icelander in South Carolina? She must have had to make some major adjustments when she first moved there.

Pigs in Space, thanks for the hostel tip.

I’m thinking of going in April. two questions:
-is Lake Myvatn worth a trip?
-skiing outside of Rejkjavik: is it possible to ski with a short (say 1 hour ride) from the city? Are the ski slopes any good? What kind of verticals can I expect?

Well speaking as a native…mind you I´m a little more coherent than dear bj0rn, I can definetly recommend lake Myvatn and its surrounding areas. Great lava fields all around and be sure to visit the Dimmuborgir fields around lake Myvatn when you’re there.

If you want to ski then the Blafjoll mountain range is about 45 minutes east of Reykjavik. Mind you this winter has been especially mild in the south of the country, with hardly a snowflake falling down, so you might want to consider the northern part of the country, if you’re thinking about skiing instead.

Are the ski slopes any good? Tell you what, if you break both your legs while skiing, I´ll personally admit that they may be a little too much, otherwise I´ll say “naw they aren´t all that challenging”. Just post in this forum when you get back ok?
