Thing is, **pan** , there’s an interesting discussion to be had over the effects of legal prostitution on rape statistics, just like the discussion on the effects of legal porn on rape statistics. But your bringing it up in that thread was wholly inappropriate and out of place. If you want to have that discussion, do it elsewhere. Do it in a way that doesn’t threadshit on someone venting about an asshole. Your bringing it up was a non sequitur; your continuing to harp on it was an asshole move. ---

I don’t personally feel that legalizing prostitution would ameliorate those issues really at all, since I don’t believe there are a ton of people who go into turning tricks who aren’t forced to do it either through sex trafficking, fear of violence, lack of additional monetary options, or drug addiction. I mean, sure, everybody wants to be that high class call girl who makes $250,000 a night and gets tipped in Ferraris, but there’s a limited market for that sort of thing, and I feel like it would get saturated pretty quickly. Not everyone is lining up at the prospect of giving away $20 bj’s in the alley and _finally_ being able to file as a 1099. This sounds like an interesting GD thread, however. ---

**pan** , the men in the thread insisting that women don’t actually mean no when they say it and the PUA recommendations that men ply women with alcohol, relentlessly push for more physical contact, persist in using guilt to persuade women to dispense sex are the reasons that guys like MOL’s date ignore the word no. Your insistence that we take pity on the “sexually frustrated man” rather than the woman who he attempted to take advantage of is really shitty. No one is owed sex. Horniness isn’t a legit social, emotional, or physical illness. The fix doesn’t require government intervention or oversight; jerking off will end the “suffering”. We recently had a very ugly thread in which women who expressed wariness of strange men were shamed relentlessly for taking steps to ensure their safety. And in this thread, we’ve got men telling us we can’t extend courtesy to men because that indicates we want them to attempt to have sex with us, even when we say no. Men telling us we don’t really mean no. Men telling us that letting men into our homes obligates us to have sex with men we don’t want. The contradictions would be infuriating if they weren’t just incredibly disappointing. No means no, and we don’t need a magic bullet to figure that out. ---

The only person deserving of sympathy in that scenario was the woman who, after stating clearly that she was not interested in sex but wanted to be nice to her date, was cornered, pawed, and trapped with a persistent jerk who ignored her “no” and attempted to push her into sex. That douche does not deserve pity, sexual release, an outlet, or anything other than derision and a swift kick in the dick for being a pushy asshole. It’s always been that as long as people express odious opinions without resorting to personal insults it was fine. As bad as some of the opinions were, nobody on their side (which, again, I completely disagree with) were using personal attacks. We’ve suffered plenty of racists here that we kept around as long as they didn’t attack anyone directly. It has nothing to do with whether their opinion deserves respect, but how it was expressed. (Though I’m a bit surprised I didn’t get a warning because I _did_ get pretty snarky there for a bit). ---

Apparently **Idle Thoughts** is over in the original thread warning **Troppus** for using fake usernames to make fun of people and using the word “douchebag” but not directed at a specific poster, which is also worse than saying you can ignore a woman’s verbal “no” because it doesn’t really mean no.
